“The TerraFlex II is sturdy and protective against outdoor terrain. I really like it for running sprints and up hills and dirt trails. It’s a really great outdoor shoe.” – Chase B.

The TerraFlex II is an update to the best-selling original featuring a more abrasion and water-resistant upper — with no sacrifices to any of the trail-gripping traction, secure fit, and all-day comfort that people loved about the TerraFlex.

FAQs

The TerraFlex is our first shoe designed for trails. With a rugged, stitched upper, it’s great for running and hiking.

The Mesa Trail is made more specifically for trail running, with a lightweight breathable mesh upper, extra moisture wicking lining, and a protective welded covering for the adjustable midfoot and instep straps.

Both shoes have a grippy, lugged, dual-chevron tread, and a 3mm TrailFoam layer (“hiding” in the outsole) for just-right protection and comfort.

So far, so good (a gift)

I couldn't resist the sale, in that I recommended these to someone who competes in dog agility events. I figured he'd never try them unless I sent him a pair. I have balance issues so I totally endorse the ground feel issue as significant, fyi. He tells me he likes the TF very much -- and straight from the box. He has worn custom inserts owing to heel pain. I think he was trying these as provided and with his inserts. Not sure of a final verdict, but so far he seems happy and expressed interest in buying more Xero shoes. If you think someone would benefit, guessing/asking size works well. I had to send him a label for an exchange for 1/2 a size higher. Having that gave me confidence I could make ths work. I believe I have seen him wear them in competition but he didn't tell me what insert he used.

Love these shoes!

These are the most durable and well-constructed of the four styles of Xeros I own. They did require a short break-in period, but they fit my narrow foot perfectly. I went up a half size because the Prio Neo was just a tad short. Even though Xero shoes run a bit wide, this was not the case with my Terraflex. I'll wear these while hiking--more comfortable than low or mid-hiking boots and lighter than any similar shoes I've ever owned.

Comfort

Hiked approximately 3 miles in these. Very comfortable with great traction.

They are perfect in every terrain so far but…

…they don’t do the best on flat surfaces, especially if they’re wet. However, they’ve been great on grass, dirt, rocks, and sand too. They even held up well with water resistance considering most of the terrain I’ve been has been wet. Great product for this weather.

Good, but a little short of great

Want to start with the large caveat that I got these too late in the season to have actually taken them hiking yet. But I have worn them around a fair amount just to break them in and try them out and they are very comfortable and seem solidly built. I do have the complaint that the toe box on these (and my last few pairs of Xero shoes) have felt a little snug (which is odd, given it's a selling point of the brand). I wish they would give the toe box just a little more space, like 10% or so.
