Product Description

Most hikes don’t need a big, heavy, technical hiking boot.

And most hiking boots don’t let your foot bend, move, flex and feel the world… until the DayLite Hiker EV

“EV” is short for “EVolution” because this version of the DayLite Hiker is a new and improved version of the original. Plus it’s designed to let your foot move and function the way it’s supposed to.

Perfect for day hikes and casual wear, the DayLite Hiker EV is built with our foot-first design and natural movement philosophy.

  1. Natural FIT – Wide, anatomically correct toe boxes let your toes spread and relax, plus a non-elevated, “zero-drop” heel for proper posture.
  2. Natural MOTION – Your feet are supposed to bend and flex and move. The DayLite Hiker is super flexible to let them do that. The low-to-the-ground design is perfect for balance and agility.
  3. Natural FEEL – Your feet are supposed to FEEL the world. Our patented FeelTrue® soles give you just-right protection while also giving you the ground feedback that your brain and body want.
  4. Lightweight – You don’t want your footwear to weigh you down
  5. 5,000-mile sole warranty

Any questions? Just call us at 303 447 3100 or send us an email. We’re here to help.

We know from experience that whatever we say here, people will ignore and they’ll do whatever they want in their DayLite Hiker.

After all, we know of people who run marathons in their Hana and Lena, and those are described as “casual” shoes. 😉

We designed the DayLite Hiker for the kind of journeys that most people take, most of the time — day hikes, non-technical trails, and even just walking around. While it’s not a “technical” hiker, the flexible FeelTrue® sole will let it tackle more than just a stroll. Check out the reviews to see what others are doing in their DayLite Hikers.

Like all our shoes, the DayLite Hiker has a “huarache-inspired” heel strap. You can tighten or loosen that to give a bit more (or less) support around your heel, which can hold your foot in place better.

And like the Prio, the DayLite Hiker has independently adjustable instep straps. You can tighten the laces going through those “inverted V” straps to cinch the boot around your instep. This can also help keep your foot secure. Securing your instep (but not TOO much) can actually let your toes relax even more… experiment with the tension of these straps and see what you experience.

We use “men’s” and “women’s” as a matter of convention. We know there are some men who will fit better in the “women’s” shoe, and vice versa.

The “men’s” style is a bit wider across the toes and in the heel. The women’s, conversely, has a narrower heel and slightly less-wide toe box.

If you’re a man with a very thin foot, or a women with a wide foot, you may want to try the “other” style.

Sizing, as you’ve probably experienced, is different between brands. You may wear a 9 from one company and then anything between an 8 and 10 from another company.

Luckily, if the size you get is incorrect, we do have a free exchange policy.

The Daylite Hiker runs small. We recommend choosing 1 full size larger than your usual size.

If you already have a pair of Prio, the DayLite Hiker fits similarly. If you have the Hana or Lena, you’ll probably want to go up 1/2 a size because of the difference in performance vs. casual shoes.

If you plan to wear thick socks with the DayLite Hiker, you may want to add 1/2 a size to accommodate that.
We have sizing guidelines on this page and our main sizing page but keep in mind that these are “guidelines.” People like their shoes to fit differently — some like their toes right up at the edge, others like to have 1/4″-1/2″ of extra space in front of their toes.

Using the guidelines we give, again, if you’re really close to the next 1/2 size up, we’d recommend starting with that.

Did I mention our exchange policy? 😉

It’s not waterproof because the tongue is independent of the rest of the upper, though the ballistic mesh material in the upper definitely makes this boot a little more rain-friendly than most other footwear. If you really want to keep the water at bay, check out our Xcursion — Xero’s first fully waterproof boot.

Best barefoot boots!!

I am VERY HAPPY with those boots! I tried 2 other minimalist boots before buying this pair and ohhh boy they are on a whole other level! I took them 1 size larger than my shoe size and they fit perfectly. They really have the barefoot feel it's incredible! I use them as winter boots and they are warm enough : I just tested them with normal socks at -15°C (5°F) and I could feel the cold a little bit but honestly I enjoy that! I assume that with warm socks, they will do the job for the colder days up here in Canada!

IGreat, except that…I am an older woman, and over the years the ball of my foot has gotten much wider. I wear a women’s 7 1/2 EE, So ordering the men’s size 6 is a good fit, but the top of the boot is too high. It rubs hard on my Achilles tendon. Right now I am trying to figure out how to fold it down about half an inch so that it ends in the right place on my ankle. The height of the boot is exactly the same as my other boots, but since your foot goes down lower With zero heel, the boot comes up to high on my ankle. If I can bend it or so it down or something they will be just great.

I am an older woman, and over the years the ball of my foot has gotten a lot wider. I find that ordering a boys or men’s size 6 instead of my usual women’s 7 1/2 double E is a good fit, But with zero heel, the boot comes up too high on my ankle. If I can bend it or sew it down or something they will be just great.

Back around the feet

Love my Xero daylite hinkers ... and hats off to Xero shoes customer service as my original pair had a sole come off within 12 months and Xero shoes were on the issue when notified and had a new pair back to me in no time. I currently used my hikers for beach hikes under a 45 pound weighted ruck so they feel good under the weight and lets my toes spread out and breath avoiding blisters etc...

Daylite hiker EV was good on an archery trip

Bit of a learning curve; I'm used to stepping right on to sharp rocks with my thicker soled boots and it hurt with Xero until I (ahem) learned to step on flatter places. I think I was quite a bit quieter than previous years and my feet did not get tired. (Unfortunately, no animals were harmed in the production of this review; I'm not that good an archery hunter!)

In love... again

Love the shoes. I’ve worn five fingers for years but in the Seattle area my feet get too wet in the winter time. I’ve struggled with finding a decent winter shoe until now. Thanks for making life just a little bit better.

Camping trip must

I bought these for a camping trip. I was a bit skeptical considering I'm used to wearing heavy boots, but these did well with the limited amount of hiking I did. I'll have a hard time going back to traditional boots after wearing this.

Great shoe, but a hassle to figure out sizing

Firstly, I love the shoe itself - I have nerve damage in my feet and most store-bought shoes make my feet go totally numb, but walking barefoot everywhere isn't really an option for me. Definitely a little stiff at first, but now that they're broken in they're great. I got these to be my go-to shoes because I wanted to have a shoe that could go from fall to winter to spring so that I didn't have to buy boots to cover my ankles but had something light enough that it wouldn't make my feet sweat on warm days. The 3 stars is mostly for description and ordering. I saw they ran small so I ordered up. My standard size is 8.5 women's and I do not have particularly wide feet. I ordered a 9.5 women's per their recommendations. When I got it it was SO skinny and my toes had to curl to fit! Obviously, I understand that with online ordering that you're not going to get the perfect fit every time so I sent it back and ordered a Men's 8.5 - which fit perfectly but since I had to switch from Women's to Men's, I couldn't get the color I was hoping for (a bummer but not a make-or-break issue). It did take a few weeks to get a refund, so if you're going to re-order immediately don't count on having your refund back within a few days. Now that I've been wearing them for about two weeks, they're holding up well. The only thing I don't like is that the little accent straps (red/blue/black) are fraying and pilling, and it does make the shoes *look* cheaply made (which again, is not a make or break issue). One thing to note is that I am not a runner or a hiker, mostly what this shoe goes through is pushing my daughter on the swing at the park and grocery shopping - so it's a great casual shoe and was worth the cost for the sake of my nerve damage at least .

These are wonderful

While I'm not an avid hiker, I have to say these are quite nice.. I'm currently at the Grand Canyon and I love the way I can feel the terrain underfoot. They look nice enough that I will.be able to wear them to work without raising too many eyebrows. I love these.

Instantly in love

I am so pleased with these boots, I bought a pair for myself and a pair for my partner; his & hers!... First time I put them on I was instantly in love with them, they're comfy like slippers and as rugged as you need for walking on uneven terrain. I love the feedback I get from the ground, and my feet have never been more comfortable walking long distances through the rough countryside. I can actually feel the ground, but it's not uncomfortable, sharp rocks are definitely noticeable but they don't hurt at all, if anything it's like a massage, and my girlfriend feels the same. We couldn't wait to go for a long walk in them and when we were done, even though the wind was picking up and the light was fading, we were sad to get back to our car. Really impressed, couldn't be happier. I'm wearing them in my office and everything, can't get away from them. 5/5, definitely recommended, and I don't even care that it cost me an extra £50 to get them imported to the UK. Totally worth it!!! Alex.
