Why you’ll love H-Trail

H-Trail – A Trail-Ready Huarache-Style Sandal

We’ve spent five years developing this sandal to give you the ultimate performance, comfort, and freedom of a huarache-style sandal.

The H-Trail is your perfect companion for all your outdoor adventures, from warm-weather hikes to water sports.

Finally! I’ve been wanting a thong-style trail sandal from Xero Shoes! It’s so secure and comfortable that I could run miles in it.

The Perfect Fit For YOU

With four adjustment points across the instep and heel, you’ve never had comfort and security like this in a huarache-style sandal.

Adjust the tension and angle of the toe strap, the location of the instep strap, and the position of your foot in the sandal with the heel strap. Put this all together, and the H-Trail holds your foot wherever you take it without the pressure points typically associated with a thong-style sandal.

Trail-Ready Sole

The H-Trail features a FeelTrue® rubber outsole with the dual chevron lug pattern gives you trail-ready traction, the TrailFoam™ middle layer evens out the bumps, and the BareFoam™ footbed gives you the just-right comfort.

Put it all together, and enjoy your favorite trails (even urban ones) while your feet bend, flex, and feel the terrain beneath you.

You’ll barely feel the H-Trail on your feet with a men’s size 9 weighing 6.5 oz each. And if you ever take it off (you may forget you’re even wearing it), it takes up no room in your bag and is perfect for travel.

Goes Anywhere. Goes With Anything.

The H-Trail is ultra-capable for outdoor adventures yet stylish enough to accompany any look, so you can take it anywhere from the trail to the boardwalk and everywhere in between.

HFS II for everything you do.

FAQs

We do! We’ve sold Xero Shoes to people in more than 85 countries around the world.
We use the US Postal service to send our shipments. The cost to ship will depend on the weight of the package and the delivery speed you select; several options will be provided at checkout.

All domestic shipments come with tracking. Limited tracking is available for some first class international shipments depending on the country, and full tracking is available with all Priority Express and Express International shipments.

Though almost all of our international orders arrive without incident, we strongly advise you to select Priority Express International or Express International if you live in a country with a less reliable postal service, including (but not limited to) India, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Indonesia. We cannot guarantee delivery of packages shipped using First Class International.

International delivery can take anywhere from 3 days to 8 weeks depending on how long your order spends in customs at the border.

Please note that some countries do require the payment of import duties for international shipments above a certain value. We advise you to know the import regulations of your country and understand that you will be responsible for payment of any duties and fees imposed by your government at the border.

All packages will be marked as merchandise; as a commercial shipper, we are not able to mark a package as a gift (if you’re giving Xero Shoes as a gift, that’s not the same as us sending a gift).

H-Trail vs Bedrock Cairn review/comparison

I recently tried this shoe out on a 16+ mile trail/trek. Here is my honest review. Overall, I’m glad to have this new style of minimalist trail sandal. I have been wearing barefoot style shoes for a decade and a half so I did not need a break in time for my leg and foot muscles. I predominately wear Vibram 5-fingers for trail runs and hikes but I have been doing a lot of hiking/scrambling trails in Glacier National park this month and have switched to trying trekking sandals on some of the wetter trails during warmer seasons. I decided to try these out on the Cracker Lake trail in Many Glacier and add a bit of off trail route finding and lower mountain scrambling to see how they held up against the Bedrock Cairns that I used for a similar distance trek/climb in the same area of the park to Grinnell Glacier with an Angel Wing summit. Here is my comparison. Both sandals had additional thickness to the sole that really helped on the sharper rocks and scree. Even after all these years in 5-fingers, repetitive miles on unending sharp stones start to get uncomfortable on your feet. Especially when trekking through streams and waterfalls and your feet don’t have a chance to dry out and the skin stays too soft. Both the H-Trails and the Cairns provide enough protection for as long as I want to trek even over a lot of loose rocks and sharp gravel that can litter trails for miles. I actually prefer the thickness of the H-Trail. They really got the sole thickness right and I wish the Cairns were slightly thinner. BUT they were really bad when they got wet. Wearing Cairns right out of a stream crossing I can keep trekking without worrying about sliding around. The H-Trails wet are like a slip and slide. Twice I actually had to stop and take them off to dry off my feet and the shoe because you will just slide side to side and off the edge onto the dirt sand and rocks until they dry out. It’s even worse if there is any incline down or up in the trail and the shoes are wet. A shame because I will purposely wash my feet among the creeks along the way, with my sandals on after hiking several miles on the dusty trails. I feel like with the H-trails I would avoid water now because I don’t want to slide all over in them. Obviously when I have to transition to steeper scrambling and climbing, especially on talus and scree fields I pull my Vibram 5 fingers out for this. The Cairns actually did really good for most of the non technical climbing but I switched to Vibrams on the descent. H-Trails can handle steep trails but not any scrambling climbing and especially not steep descents. I don’t think they were made for that though but always give everything a try. Both shoes were comfortable to wear but I do need moleskin for long treks in each. Cairns require a moleskin patch on the inside of my foot right below the ankle where the strap will eventually chafe the skin raw if wearing for long distances. I have heard others use body glide but I prefer to just add a moleskin patch. No rubbing on the inner foot with the H-Trails but I did have to put a moleskin patch right at the top of my foot where the strap merges with the cording that goes in between your toes. The cording felt fine but on both shoes there is some kind of scratchy glue or plastic threads, or whatever, that join the strap to the cording and started to rub through my skin a few miles in. I was able to file off the glue on the left shoe but something is still poking/rubbing on the right one. I will still be able to wear them but just have to wait for the top skin of my foot to heal first then protect it next time with a mole skin patch. I also have the Genesis sandals - but haven’t tested them in a proper trail distance yet. I will review those when I do but just walking around the house the H-Trails seemed more comfortable so I tried those out first.

Great sandal!

I wasn't sure if I wanted this style or the Z-Trail, but I'm really happy with these. They're great for around town or on the trail. I've never worn a minimal sandal off-road, but these are secure on the feet and stable on the rocks!

Gets loose

These are great in theory however, I'm constantly adjusting the straps because they loosen as you are wearing them. Don't get them wet because they will stretch out and no longer fit snuggly. Wish this didn't happen since they are not cheap for sandals but appreciate the barefoot design and will probably try a different sandal from Zero.

Wore Out FAST

I was really excited to try these sandals after having had a couple of the z-trails and loving them. Within a matter of a few weeks (only walking my dogs in the neighborhood) I wore the foot bed down to the top of the sole. Customer service told me it’s my gate and they’re not covered under warranty. The rest of the shoes still looks brand new but this hole in the foot bed has made them very uncomfortable. Don’t buy this sandal! After all my beloved Xero purchases their response to the issue has me second guessing my footwear choice.
