Hana – Casual Canvas Shoe for Men

The Hana fits true to size, however if you are between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size.*  The natural cotton canvas can start out snug, and may require a brief break in period.

Since the foot is three-dimensional, any two-dimensional measuring tool, such as a ruler or Brannock device®, can only approximate your true shoe size. Manufacturers model their shoes on different foot shapes, so sizing may vary accordingly.

*Please note our sizing recommendations are based on customer feedback and do not ensure a proper fit.

Points to consider for sizing:

  • The Hana is wider than a conventional men’s casual shoe. If you normally wear a larger size to get a wider fit in conventional shoes, you may not have to do that with the Hana. (Please note our sizing recommendations are based on customer feedback and do not ensure a proper fit.)
  • Because of the natural cotton canvas upper, the width should stretch a little during initial wear.
  • If you think of your foot as particularly narrow, you can consider ordering the Lena. Many of our male customers find a great fit in our women’s styles. Just be sure to adjust the size by 1.5 (for example a men’s 7 is the same as a women’s 8.5).
  • People like different types of fit — some like their toes near the end, others like 1/4″-1/2″ of extra space.

Get the fun and freedom of our best-selling sandals with an elegant closed-toe style and casual canvas comfort

For years, people have told us, “We LOVE our sandals, but what do we do when it’s cold out, or when I need something with closed-toes for work, or if I need a bit more protection?”

The new Ipari Hana is the answer.

The Hana is, first and foremost, a casual shoe.  But since it’s built on our high-performance FeelTrue® sandal base, it’ll handle much more.

We don’t recommend using the Hana as a running shoe, but we know some of you will wear the Hana for more than just chillin’ at a coffee shop.

Check out these reviews from Hana wearers

Why you’ll love the Ipari Hana

  • Natural FIT — a wide toe box lets your toes spread and relax. Plus the “XERO-drop” sole (non-elevated heel and low-to-the ground) allows for proper posture, balance and agility.
  • Natural FUNCTION — the Hana is flexible enough to let your feet bend, move, and flex the way, well, that feet are supposed to. Plus, they’re so light weight, you’ll barely know you have them on. A men’s 9 is only 8 ounces each.
  • Natural FEEL — the Hana uses the same 5.5mm FeelTrue® rubber sole from our Z-Trek sandal, so you get great protection while still getting the ground feedback that your feet like. With an optional 2mm insole, the Hana truly lets you Feel The World®.
  • Vegan friendly materials — the Hana’s upper is canvas, the lining and external accents are microfiber. It washes easily with soap and water.
  • Huarache inspired design — the heel/instep strap is not only eye-catching but functional.
  • Flexible heel — feel free to step on the heel and wear the Hana as a “slide”

Why is it called “Ipari Hana”?

“Ipari” is the category name we’re using for all of our closed-toe shoes (yes, that means more are coming!). It was inspired by “rarajipari,” the running, ball-kicking game the Tarahumara play… even though it’s an endurance game, the emphasis is on FUN. Then, “Hana” was inspired by the name of the town in Maui, Hawaii that exemplifies the feeling of casual adventure. Plus, “hana” means “craft” in Hawaiian.

Put it together and you get a well-crafted, elegant casual shoe that’s perfect for your next adventure.

FAQS

What Can I Do In The Hana?

Practically anything. Though the Hana is designed as a casual shoe, it’s certainly capable of much more than just hanging out.

We’ve had people do all kinds of outrageous activities in them so far, but it’s up to your best judgment what you believe they can handle.

So, use your common sense and have fun!

Is the Hana only for Men?

Nope.

Both men and women can, and do, wear the Hana.

That said, the Hana only goes down to a Men’s size 6.5. For a smaller foot, check out the Lena. Also, the Hana is a bit wider than most “women’s shoes.” For women with wider feet, this can be perfect.

How Do I Find My Hana Size?

Shoe sizing, especially online, is not a perfect process. That’s why we have a free exchange policy.

We have sizing instructions at the bottom of the product description for the Hana.

The Hana fits “true-to-size” or a TINY bit small. So you’ll probably be okay selecting your “usual” shoe size. If you think you’re “between sizes,” go up a 1/2 size.

The width of the Hana is approximately EE width. The canvas upper can stretch to become a bit wider.

Keep in mind, though, that because the foot is three-dimensional, any two-dimensional measuring tool, such as a ruler or Brannock device®, can only approximate your true shoe size. Manufacturers model their shoes on different foot shapes, which is why you might be an 8 in one brand and a 9 in another.

Sizing for a shoe is different than a sandal, so if you own one of our sandals, that doesn’t mean you’ll pick the same size in the Hana.

If your foot is really narrow, you may want to check out the Lena.

Is the Hana Waterproof?

No, the Hana is a canvas shoe, and will absorb any water it encounters. That being said, they are canvas and should dry relatively quickly when you take them off.

How Do I Care for My Hanas?

You will be able to wash them with a mild soap and water mixture. The canvas is quite durable, and should come clean easily with a little scrubbing.

DO NOT place your Hana’s in the dryer when you are finished cleaning, let them air dry.

My Hana Suddenly Feel Looser

The canvas upper on the Hana can stretch a bit. Most people find this makes them even more comfortable. The huarache-inspired lacing should hold nicely around your midfoot to let your toes be more free.

Do you ship internationally?

We do! We’ve sold Xero Shoes to people in more than 85 countries around the world.

We use the US Postal service to send our shipments. The cost to ship will depend on the weight of the package and the delivery speed you select; several options will be provided at checkout.

All domestic shipments come with tracking.  Limited tracking is available for some first class international shipments depending on the country, and full tracking is available with all Priority Express and Express International shipments.

Though almost all of our international orders arrive without incident, we strongly advise you to select Priority Express International or Express International if you live in a country with a less reliable postal service, including (but not limited to) India, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Indonesia.  We cannot guarantee delivery of packages shipped using First Class International.

International delivery can take anywhere from 3 days to 8 weeks depending on how long your order spends in customs at the border.

Please note that some countries do require the payment of import duties for international shipments above a certain value. We advise you to know the import regulations of your country and understand that you will be responsible for payment of any duties and fees imposed by your government at the border.

All packages will be marked as merchandise; as a commercial shipper, we are not able to mark a package as a gift (if you’re giving Xero Shoes as a gift, that’s not the same as us sending a gift).

Also, check our Stores page. There may be a Xero Shoes dealer closer to you.

What’s your return policy?

Some people get their Xero Shoes, put them on, and immediately love them. They walk and run painlessly and with the freedom that Xero Shoes provide.

For others, there could be a process of learning how to tie huaraches, and how to walk and run in minimalist footwear. In fact, one of the points of going barefoot/minimalist is to let any discomfort teach you how to move in a different way… a way that will be more efficient and potentially healing. Getting a blister, or feeling some tension in the cord isn’t a sign that there’s a problem with your sandals, but rather they’re working as they should: They’re giving you important feedback about your form (usually overstriding and/or landing too hard). Once your body/mind naturally figures out how to adjust, those issues resolve themselves. If you have any questions, check out Xero Shoes Forum to see if someone else has already answered your question or solved your problem (they probably have). We’re also happy to help, and we’re really good at coaching over the phone, so don’t hesitate to call: 303.447.3100

All that said, please go to Xero Shoes Return Policy page to learn about our 45-day return policy and free exchange policy.
