Product Description

“The Mesa Trail II is even better than the original! It feels grippier on different trail surfaces, and is one of the lightest trail runners out there.  – Alex L.

Tens of thousands of Xero Shoes customers loved the Mesa Trail’s combination of lightweight comfort and trail-gripping security.

The Mesa Trail II improves on that with more rugged, durable, and protective welded components on the upper, a breathable mesh, and a moisture-wicking lining that’s ready for wherever you take it.

FEEL CONNECTED TO YOUR WORLD WHEN YOU RUN IN THE MESA TRAIL II

LIGHTWEIGHT COMFORT

You’ll love hitting the trails with this “just right” balance of lightweight comfort and trail-gripping security. At just 8.2oz for a men’s size 9, the Mesa Trail II is even lighter than the original.

The adjustable midfoot and instep straps hug this trail runner snugly to your foot. The thin, durable toe cap and tough sidewall welding work hard to give you added protection.

TRAIL-GRIPPING

Our patented FeelTrue™ sole features 3.5mm lugs for optimal traction. Enjoy how our 3.5mm TrailFoam™ layer evens out the bumps during your trail run.

WE MAKE TRAIL RUNNING SHOES SO COMFORTABLE, YOU’LL FORGET THEY’RE EVEN ON.

If your feet don’t feel as good at the end of the day as they did in the beginning, you haven’t tried the Mesa Trail II.

Life-changing comfort and superior performance come from letting your feet do what’s natural – bend, move, flex and feel.

All Xero Shoes feature a wider, foot-shaped toe box that lets your toes spread and relax, a non-elevated “zero drop” heel for proper posture, low-to-the-ground design for better balance and agility, and a flexible sole that gives you the combination of grip, protection, and ground-feel your brain wants to help you Live Life Feet First.

World's best trail shoe

Almost 2 years ago I bought a pair of mesa trails and loved them. I run ultra marathons and use them for all my training. The sole of those has finally lost most of their grip, so despite the rest of the shoe being in great condition, in preparation for my next ultra, I decided to buy the mesa trail 2. I love them so far, they do everything the first edition did, plus some apparantly improved grip on the sole and more durable upper materials. My ONLY gripe is Xero needs to get their sizing right. My 9's are slightly bigger than my old 9.5's. Other than that, great shoe!

Bought 3 colors of the same shoe!

The Mesa Trail II is even better than the photos! They look a lot like traditional shoes (which helps in wearing everyday clothes) and fit superbly. I really like the aggressive tread on the soles too. Nice fit and finish!

An absolute foot party!

Holy cow, I think I have found what is for me the perfect trail shoe. I was given these free from the Xero Shoes company in exchange for giving an honest review. And, honestly, I could not find ANYTHING that I did not like about this shoe. It immediately became my new go-to shoe…. my current favorite. And, possibly, one of my favorite trail shoes of all time. It is an absolute foot party every time I put these on and head out on the trail. When I am wearing these, even on the most technical of trails, I feel an extraordinary degree of confidence. Everything seems to be “dialed in” just right: Firm fit in the back, sufficient room in the front, easy to lace down, great traction, super lightweight, crazy flexible. To my taste, it’s got the perfect balance underfoot between protecting me from sharp stuff and yet gives me plenty of tactility. Add it all up and trail running has become more fun. The shoe has been a real confidence-builder on the most technical of trails. Some details: First, this is true to size for me. Second, the cushioning is just enough; You are still close to the ground for their barefoot feeling, BUT with a little bit of protection between you and the sharp stuff. Third, it’s got great flexibility. Fourth, because it’s become my go-to shoe, I’ve already got 100 miles on these, so I can speak to their longevity potential. On this alone, I’ve got to go 5 for 5 on the score. I am seeing no signs of wear or weak spots ANYWHERE, except a tiny bit on the tread’s chevron’s at the rear of the shoe — no surprise though since it’s already over 100 miles AND since I love to bomb the downhills. I’ve been testing it on some seriously technical trails, really putting it through the ringer. They still look great, and the wear and tear is so minimal that I’m getting as much traction today as I got the day I went for my first run in them. Drainage is a five out of five, too. I was able to test this on several trails. The shoes got doused, COMPLETELY dunked, as I made my way through stream crossings. But I wasn’t sloshing around for very long; the shoes drained almost instantly and were completely dry within just a mile or so. As for dislikes: I got nothing. For me, this is the closest thing to a perfect trail shoe that I’ve ever owned.

The Best Hiking Shoes

I love the original Mesa Trail hiking shoes. They've been my favorite hiking footwear to date. This second version of them is very similar, but have a couple small upgrades. They're still just as comfortable, great ventilation, great traction with the widely spaced lugs, good protection from rocks and roots while still offering good feel and flexibility, etc. They have a new toe cap that's a bit more flexible and comfortable, but still offers good protection and abrasion resistance. The lower sides of the shoes have an extra welding reinforcement that seems like it would help them be more durable in the long run too. Overall I love these. They're a perfect hiking shoe for me when it's not really wet or really cold.

Durable, true to size, and Grippy

Xero Shoes Mesa Trail II Size 13 I used the Mesa Trail II’s for trail running, street running, walking my dog, going to the office, hiking, and backpacking. The sizing is 10/10 true to size for a 13 foot. I take the sole out to get a more barefoot feel and never once got a blister while running in these because of the perfect fit. When backpacking and hiking I pushed them to the limit; running on downhill pitches, jumping from rock to rock, turning suddenly to see if the traction would hold. The grip on the bottom of the shoe is amazing, even with wet conditions. The shoes dry fast when they get wet and don’t retain water if you accidentally step in a puddle during a hike. After backpacking my knees felt great when they would normally hurt with thick heeled shoes. These shoes are also resilient. After several months of hiking the mesh is still completely in-tact and where the mesh meets the rubber sole of the shoe there are no gaps or openings. The shoe laces look the same as the day I purchased them after running through mud and a couple rinses with water. When running or walking on flat surfaces it’s surprisingly smooth and at some points I even forgot I was wearing trail runners. I could wear them for hours at a standing desk in the office in comfort. Overall it is a wonderful shoe and one that I plan to use every time I step onto the trail.

I wear shoes when I run trails, but when I do...

I usually run and live in sandals, but the Xero Mesa Trail II shoes are some of the only shoes I wear these days. Upper: Holy breathability, Batman. This tough upper can let a breeze through on the warmest days. The toe cap is tough, yet flexible to protect your toes from rocks and roots while not feeling constricting. Insole or no insole: Keep in the insole for protection from gravel when you need it. Take it out when you want more ground-feel. As simple as that. Lug-tastic: The lugs on this thing are pretty much the closest thing to cleats that you'll find on a barefoot shoe, but the rubber is soft enough to compress and shape to whatever the trail throws at you. Barefoot-style: Wide toe box, zero drop, roll-up sole—these have it, all in a trail running shoe. I'm looking forward to many miles on the trails in these babies!
