Product Description

You’ll practically fly over your next trail when you’re wearing the Mesa Trail.

We made the Mesa Trail with lightweight, barefoot-friendly, minimalist running in mind. But we know you’ll wear it off-trail too.

You’ll look great when you pair the Mesa Trail with your favorite jeans, and is comfortable enough for all-day wear.

The breathable, mesh upper gets rid of the weight and keeps you cool. The moisture wicking “37.5” lining helps keep you dry. The welded protective covering of the adjustable midfoot and instep straps adds durability. The lugged, dual-chevron tread gives you sure-footed traction. And the “hidden” 3mm TrailFoam™ layer adds the right amount of protection and comfort.

Why you’ll love the Mesa Trail

  • Natural FIT — a wide toe box lets your toes spread, splay, relax, and function naturally.
  • Natural MOTION — the Mesa Trail is flexible enough to let your feet bend, move, and flex the way, well, that feet are supposed to. The “XERO-drop” design (non-elevated heel) allows for proper posture, and it’s built low to the ground for balance and agility.
  • Natural FEEL — the Mesa Trail has a 5mm FeelTrue® rubber sole, with 3.5mm lugs to give you the right combination of protection and grip, plus ground-feedback so your brain knows how to move your body optimally. Also, you can remove the 2mm insole, for a closer-to-barefoot experience that lets you Feel The World®.
  • Light weight — so light, in fact, you could forget you have them on. A men’s 9 is about 7.6 ounces (each).
  • Huarache-inspired design — the adjustable instep and midfoot straps are not just eye-catching but functional, giving you a secure and comfortable fit.
  • Vegan-friendly materials — No animal products are used in the Mesa Trail
  • 5,000 mile sole warranty — like all Xero Shoes, the Mesa Trail is backed with a 24 month manufacturer’s warranty and a 5,000 mile sole warranty.

Caring for your Mesa Trails

To clean your Mesa Trails, hand wash with warm water, mild soap and allow them to air dry.
We do not recommend putting the Speed Force in the washing machine or dryer.

The TerraFlex is our first shoe designed for trails. With a rugged, stitched upper, it’s great for running and hiking.

The Mesa Trail is made more specifically for trail running, with a lightweight breathable mesh upper, extra moisture wicking with the “37.5” lining, and a protective welded covering for the adjustable midfoot and instep straps.

Both shoes have a grippy, lugged, dual-chevron tread, and a 3mm TrailFoam layer (“hiding” in the outsole) for just-right protection and comfort.

Good job Xero

I wear Xeros for pretty much everything - z-trail for rivers, Hana for work, and the Prio for running and workouts. The Mesa is a nice addition to the family. A little more grip and stiffness than the Prio, but still has everything I like - wide toe box, breathes well, zero-drop, and no support. These are my choice for trail running and hiking.

Excellent shoe

This is a light, limber, and amazing shoe. A shoe that feels like a slipper, you'll want to wear everyday. Nicely done.

Mesa Trail

From the very first moment I pulled these trail runners on, I was, totally immersed in comfort and performance. The mesa trail is made of quality material and constructed to high standards for those of us who live for the rugged trails far off the beaten path.

Great trail shoe

I've been able to try these out some, and so far they're great. Really comfortable, lightweight and flexible, good room in the toe box, a removable insole for plenty of cushion for rocks and roots (feels good with or without the insole), and great looking. Even though it's a trail shoe, I could see wearing this as an everyday shoe with how comfortable they are and how good they look. I like the traction on the sole, it's grippy rubber and a good lug pattern so it grips the ground well but with lugs far enough apart that it doesn't catch mud all in it. Sizing seems to run similar to the Prio. I wear a 12 in the Prio, and the 12 in the Mesa Trail worked well for me too. This is my new favorite trail shoe.

My new hiking shoe

I love the new Mesa trail so far. I have tested mine out on ice and snow and the grip is very good. I didn’t slip much even on ice. The sole is thick enough so rocks and stubble don’t hurt but still flexible enough for good movement. I also really like the look of those shoes. I can’t wait until spring to get them out hiking.

My new favorite trail shoe

These are my new favorite trail shoe! I took these out for a hike up Torrey Pines the other day. They're great, nice wide toe box, great feel, AND great grip. Great for running up sandy/rocky slopes, jumping, climbing, balancing, carrying people, you name it! They are Original Human Movement approved.

Love these!

A true trail runner from Xero Shoes... love them! I liked running in the Terra Flex, but the shoe was a bit bulky, and better suited for general hiking and every day for me. The Mesa Trail is lighter, more flexible, and is awesome to run in! Great traction, and the sole releases mud well. Breathable soft upper as well... great shoe!

Mesa Trail will be a huge success amongst trail runners. XERO NAILED IT. A Grand Slam homerun.

XERO Mesa Trail is aesthetically pleasing, feels incredible underfoot and is perfectly functional with great connection; yet just enough protection. MESA is super light, super flexible, breathable, and removable insoles for drying or to achieve a more minimal amount of protection. As an older huarache sandal ultra runner focused on 100 mile races, I would not hesitate to wear Mesa for a trail ultra 50K ultra or longer race. With the expansive feel in the forefoot area, risk of excess rubbing anywhere should be nominal. Some shoe companies promote a quasi minimalist shoes, or a maximalist shoes with certain minimalist properties, but XERO SHOES get it right, all the way right. Mesa is comfortable on rock hard surface as well. My suggestion is to be very careful about avoiding comfort trap shoes and find the "least amount of protection" for any given application. Mesa works for a wide range of applications in my opinion. This will be a huge seller and another company "Game Changer". I've reviewed, in detail, most of the Xero products. Simply search Randy Kreill / Xero on YouTube. Join the movement, as these properly designed products can enhance your awareness; the essence of life and athletics. Happy Trails … Get Out There!

Feather light-great traction

I had a chance to try these on multiple terrain trails. Dirt, grass, mossy inclines, granite, and smooth worn wooden pathways. The grip is terrific. I noticed how light they are as soon as they came out of the box. Light, ventilated upper, and great tread. There is a small trade-off of ground feel, but these soles handle sharp gravel, rocks, you name it. If you are looking for a shoe specifically designed for trail running, this is it. It is substantial enough to give you protection on sketchy trails, but so light it feels like nothing on your feet. Overall extremely pleased with the Mesa Trail!

Mesa Trail

The experience was great the shoe is very comfortable and ready to tackle all the approaches and trail trips we took them on. We used them for some nice Ozark trails as well as some impromptu ninja and slacklining. It’s very lightweight and sturdy with a rugged sole for all terrain. Live feet first!
