Sizing, as you’ve probably experienced, is different between brands. You may wear a 9 from one company and then anything between an 8 and 10 from another company.
Luckily, if the size you get is incorrect, we do have a free exchange policy.
The Coalton fits true-to-size for most, and 1/2 size small for others. If you think you’re close to a larger size, go up 1/2 from your usual size.
If you already have a pair of Prio, the Coalton fits similarly. If you have the Hana or Lena, you’ll probably want to go up 1/2 a size because of the difference in performance vs. casual shoes.
If you plan to wear thick socks with the Coalton, you may want to add 1/2 a size to accommodate that.
We have sizing guidelines on this page and our main sizing page but keep in mind that these are “guidelines.” People like their shoes to fit differently — some like their toes right up at the edge, others like to have 1/4″-1/2″ of extra space in front of their toes.
Using the guidelines we give, again, if you’re really close to the next 1/2 size up, we’d recommend starting with that.
Did I mention our exchange policy? 😉

Shoe sizing, especially online, is not a perfect process. That’s why we have a free exchange policy.
We have sizing instructions at the bottom of the product description for the Hana.
The Hana fits “true-to-size” or a TINY bit small. So you’ll probably be okay selecting your “usual” shoe size. If you think you’re “between sizes,” go up a 1/2 size.
Also, the Hana is wider than conventional shoes. The canvas upper can stretch to become a bit wider.
Keep in mind, though, that because the foot is three-dimensional, any two-dimensional measuring tool, such as a ruler or Brannock device®, can only approximate your true shoe size. Manufacturers model their shoes on different foot shapes, which is why you might be an 8 in one brand and a 9 in another.
Sizing for a shoe is different than a sandal, so if you own one of our sandals, that doesn’t mean you’ll pick the same size in the Hana.
If your foot is really narrow, you may want to check out the Lena.

We have sizing instructions at the bottom of the product description for the Lena.
The Lena fits “true-to-size” or a TINY bit small. So you’ll probably be okay selecting your “usual” shoe size. If you think you’re “between sizes,” go up a 1/2 size.
Also, the Lena is wider than conventional shoes. Some people have experienced stretching in the canvas upper to slightly wider.

If your foot is bigger than the Lena, check out the Hana instead.
Use the templates that are linked on this page (next to where you select the size, and in the product description).
NOTE: Please measure your foot and/or use the templates. Sandal size is very often different than shoe size.
Also, if you have the Z-Trek, you may need a different size in the Z-Trail. The Z-Trek is a TINY bit longer than the Z-Trail, so if your toes come close to the edge in your Z-Treks, you may want to up one size for the Z-Trail.

There are 54 different foot shapes. And no product will fit everyone perfectly.
If you’re not sure you have the right size, drop us an email with some photos (top, side, back) and we’ll give you our opinion.
If you have the right size but the Z-Trek shape doesn’t quite match your foot… CUT IT! That’s right, you can trim the Z-Trek with a good pair of kitchen scissors. To finish the edge cleanly, try some sandpaper. Don’t cut off too much, too soon, though. Take off just a bit, and then see how you did. Remember, you can’t UN-cut.
If you’re a man with a very narrow foot, you may be better in the “women’s” style. Conversely, women with very wide feet, or over a size 10, should check the sizing for he “men’s” products.

I love these shoes!!!! I wear them all the time for walking around town. I can't wait to try them hiking when the trails reopen.
I feel like I’m walking barefoot but with protection from certain objects that could hurt my feet. They are so comfortable I’d recommend and buy them again. Very happy with my purchase!
We're thrilled to hear that you're enjoying the barefoot-like feel and comfort of your Xero Shoes! Providing that sensation of walking barefoot while still offering protection is exactly what we aim for with our designs. Thank you for your recommendation and for being a satisfied customer. Happy walking, and thank you for choosing Xero Shoes!
I bought these 8 years ago and they are my favorite sandal for everything. I sadly lost them in my last camping trip and was devastated. I still hope to find them someday but couldn’t wait and bought a new pair. Thankfully they are still just as wonderful!!! The most comfortable and versatile footbed of all their sandals and shoes in my opinion and the straps are great. Its like better than barefoot wearing these shoes. No break in time. I have several pairs of Xero shoes that I wear all the time but these are the pair that are a must.
We're delighted to hear that you've been enjoying your Xero Shoes for the past eight years and that they've become your favorite sandals for everything! It's unfortunate that you lost them on your camping trip, but we're thrilled that you decided to get a new pair and find them just as wonderful as before. We take pride in creating comfortable and versatile footwear, and it's great to know that these sandals have become a must-have for you. Thank you for your continued support, and we hope they continue to serve you well for many more adventures!
They are extremely comfortable shoes that adjust very well for flexible wear. Being pregnant my feet grow and shrink almost by the day and I can make these feel great no matter what my body is doing.
We're delighted to hear that our shoes have been a comfortable and versatile choice for you, especially during your pregnancy! We understand the challenges of fluctuating foot sizes during this time, and we're thrilled that our shoes can adjust to accommodate those changes, ensuring you always feel great no matter what. Your comfort and satisfaction are our top priorities, and we're honored to be a part of your journey. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance or have any questions. Thank you for choosing Xero Shoes, and congratulations on your pregnancy!
I don’t like the way they feel on my feet. These feel like a slap of rubber without any conformation to my feet. It always feels like you would trip over the toe of them…they don’t curve up in front even though I bought a smaller size. I’ll use them but reluctantly.
We're truly sorry to hear that our shoes haven't met your expectations. Your comfort and satisfaction are of utmost importance to us, and we understand how disappointing it is when a product doesn't feel right. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into serious consideration as we strive to improve our designs and ensure a better fit for all our customers. If you'd like assistance with finding a more suitable style or size, please don't hesitate to reach out to our customer happiness team.
