Product Description

“The most comfortable, versatile barefoot sandal your feet will ever love.”

We’ve taken our ready-to-wear Venture and added a whisper of comfort with a custom-made 3mm BareFoam™ insert in the forefoot.

This makes the Cloud even lighter and more flexible than the Venture… A women’s size 7 is only 3.8 ounces (ea). The Cloud floats!

Some people think of the Cloud as their casual Xero Shoe, even though it’s sturdy enough to tackle a 100-mile trail ultramarathon.

Reasons you’ll love the Cloud:

  • Four fun color combinations — Coal Black soles with Charcoal, Mocha Earth soles with Black, Coal Black soles with Mint or Red
  • Vegan-friendly materials — the Cloud is made with foam, plastic and nylon
  • Barefoam™ forefoot insert gives a hint of comfort, without unnecessary padding
  • Patent-pending lacing system gives you a perfect fit in seconds
  • Flatiron pattern on the Barefoam™ gives you extra grip
  • FeelTrue® outsole protects you from unpleasant surfaces without sacrificing ground feel
  • Elegant contour surrounds your foot, but doesn’t add unnecessary support
  • Ready to wear — the lacing is already done for you. Just slide in your foot and go
  • Patent-pending tensioning system — find the perfect fit in seconds, and then you can slide your Xeros on and off in a flash
  • Super soft toe loop — since the huaraches-inspired lacing goes around your entire foot, you don’t feel the toe loop the way you do in a flip flop or other thong sandal
  • Super STRONG toe loop — won’t pull through the sole like flip flops do
  • Heel cup — keeps your heel in place, helps keep out debris, and adds a splash of color
  • Nylon Achilles strap with Silicone grip — holds on securely and comfortably
  • Elevated ankle holes — the lace never touches the ground, and so it won’t abrade
  • Vegan-friendly
  • 5,000 mile sole warranty! Wear out your Clouds in under 5,000 miles and we’ll replace them for a nominal cost (details here)

How to adjust your Cloud for a perfect fit

Follow these simple video instructions to get the “just right” tension.

Any questions? Just call us at 303 447 3100 or send us an email. We’re here to help.

Frankly, we don’t know. We’ve had people put over 10,000 miles on a pair… and they’re still going!

Like any shoe, how long they last depends on your running style. If you use good barefoot technique and are light and easy, without scraping your foot on the ground, you’ll enjoy them for quite a while.

Besides, considering how inexpensive they are compared to big, padded, running shoes, we expect that you’ll be saving a fortune by using Xero Shoes.

And, more importantly, Xero Shoes come with a 5,000 mile sole warranty!

If you have a headache because you’re hitting yourself on the head with a hammer, wearing gloves won’t stop the pain.
In other words, it’s not just a question of taking off your shoes and experiencing magical healing powers.
Running barefoot, or in running sandals, gives you a lot of feedback about your running form. In short, if it hurts, you’re probably doing something wrong.

If you are willing to listen to that feedback and use it as an opportunity to change the way you run, to adjust your stride, to find a way to move that doesn’t hurt, then there’s a good chance any problems you had that were caused by bad form sure might clear up.

In other words, barefoot and minimalist running could show you how to let go of the hammer.
Being barefoot, or in huaraches, is an opportunity to find a cure, not a cure in and of itself.
Check out this post to read about people who, instead, thought barefoot running was about putting on gloves.

Tens of thousands of people all around the world of all ages use Xero Shoes for running… and walking, hiking, biking, camping, going to the beach, hitting the gym, doing yoga, even running 100-mile ultra marathons. Our former Customer Happiness Manager, Bill, ran from his house to the bus, from the bus stop to the office, back home, and then around with his dogs… then he does his fun runs on the weekend… that was about 120 miles on his Xero Shoes each week!

We don’t currently have a way to let you select different laces when you order, but if you’re adventurous, you can buy extra laces and swap them out with the ones that come with your Clouds and Ventures. (It’s actually not that hard to do.)

The Venture and Cloud are ready-to-wear barefoot-inspired sandals.
Both products use our exclusive FeelTrue® rubber, the only outsole product made specifically for barefoot style sandals.

The Venture’s sole is 5.5mm thick, compared to either 4mm or 6mm on the DIY kits. The Cloud has 3mm of Barefoam™ in the forefoot for a bit of extra comfort and lighter weight (the Clouds float!)

The Cloud and Venture have a soft toe post, so there’s no knot under your foot.

The Cloud and Venture have a simpler lacing system with a patent-pending adjustment technology that lets you get a perfect fit in just seconds.

The ankle holes on the Cloud and Venture are raised off the ground so the lace can’t abrade.
The heel cup helps keep stuff from getting under your foot (not perfectly, of course), and keeps your heel in place.

Okay, that’s not a question, but I’ll talk about it anyway 😉

Most people who say this are thinking of flip-flops. Xero Shoes are very different than flip-flops, and people who don’t like things between their toes are usually fine in Xero Shoes.

What’s the difference?

    • First, because of the heel strap, Xero Shoes stay on your foot comfortably, no matter what you’re doing with them. You don’t need to scrunch your toes to hold them on (like you do with a flip-flop).
    • Second, also because of the heel strap, you don’t need to jam your foot into the toe strap with every step (like a flip-flop)
    • Third… Speaking of the toe strap, it’s a soft, flexible bit of lace, not a hard rubber door stopper (like a you-know-what)
    • And finally, you can adjust the tension of the toe strap, unlike a… Well, you get the idea.

Light and easy.

I can’t give you a barefoot running lesson here (for that, see the links on our home page).

But just by wearing them, you’ll find quickly that you don’t want to land hard on your heel as you walk or run in Xero Shoes.

The best advice I can give is: play with your gait and stride, looking for the thing that feels the most comfortable and is the easiest. But, most importantly: TAKE IT EASY at first… remember, Xero Shoes are just like barefoot, only with protection and style. If you’re not used to walking barefoot, that alone could take some time to get used to.

Plus, since you’re not putting as much stress on your skin when you wear huaraches, which means it hurts less, it’s tempting to do too much, too far, too fast at first. I know that no matter what I say you’ll probably overdo it (I did). Besides, how do you know what “too much” is, unless you do too much!?

Well, even though that’s true, I recommend you break into your huaraches SLOWLY. Walk around in them for a while first. Maybe only a half mile or so. When that’s comfortable, extend the time you’re walking and, when you feel ready, try running. If you’re already running a mile a day, try half a mile in these one day and see how you feel. Give yourself a day or two off and then repeat. If that’s not a problem, build up SLOWLY.

I also use the “slap-test.” If my sandals are slapping on the ground when I walk or run, I need to make some kind of change, probably by not reaching my foot out as far, or using better posture, etc.

You can use almost anything for lacing huaraches.

In my testing, though, I found some issues with hemp and leather that I didn’t like:

  • Both leather and hemp tended to stretch, especially when moist
  • Both leather and hemp tighten and stiffen when they dry
  • Both leather and hemp wear out faster than our polyester laces
  • Leather is much more expensive
  • Most leather laces are rectangular, and the edges can dig into your skin
  • Leather, isn’t vegan (for those who care about that)
  • Leather and hemp don’t give you as many fun color choices

The 100% polyester cord we use is strong, light, and doesn’t stretch or tighten, especially when wet.

Also, I prefer the “slip-on” method of tying which works best with a round lace, rather than a flat one (like leather).

Needless to say, you can replace the lace we send you with whatever you like.

Caring for your Cloud Sandals

Because of the BareFoam™ in the Clouds, these need a bit of extra attention. Do not leave your Clouds in hot cars or exposed to intense or direct sunlight. This could cause the BareFoam™ to deform and is not covered by our warranty.

To clean your Cloud sandals, hand wash with warm water, mild soap and allow them to air dry (away from direct sunlight).

Wonderful, highly adjustable sandals!

My experience was very good. I bought two pairs of shoes; the Oswegos and these Cloud sandals. At first, I loved the Oswegos and WANTED to love the Cloud sandals, but at first, they didn't fit me properly. I contacted Xero to see if they had any suggestions, and they forwarded me a video detailing all the many ways these sandals can be adjusted. I had no idea they were so flexible (in more ways than one). I had been all ready to send them back and exchange them for something else, but that video and one more that came up right afterwards showed me how to adjust these to fit my feet exactly. Also, the customer service is excellent. Yes, being a small company they take a couple days to respond, but that is okay. We need to be willing to wait in order to support our smaller businesses. The folks at Xero were willing to go above and beyond even their normal policies in order to make sure they had a satisfied customer. Well, this customer is satisfied!

Clunky & uncomfortable

I have a bare of Xero running shoes that I love! I get the barefoot concept. These sandals were terrible. There is some light cushioning on most of the foot bed, but not on the heel, where it is most needed. Also, in order to get the proper fit, I had to tighten the cords quite a bit, which then had them sticking out in every direction. Overall, it looked like I had random materials tied onto my foot, rather than wearing an actual sandal. Not a winner for me.

Walking on clouds

These shoes are well named. They’re amazing! I am living in them now that summer is here. I did spend the first couple weeks making adjustments and experimenting to find the perfect fit. It was worth them effort! For me, adding an extra loop in the section when the ankle holes are made the difference. The heel no longer slides down, and the laces are the perfect length. And it looks cute, to boot:) I am looking forward to purchasing these sandals again in multiple colors.

I wouldn't run in these

The front lip on the shoe gets caught up when I'm walking. Maybe this means I didn't size them correctly? I actually measured my foot before purchasing, so I'm not sure. I like the sandals but I would never run in them. Then again, I did not buy them for running, so 4 stars! They are definitely minimalist, which I wanted. They also don't tear up my feet; I can wear them all day walking. The tighteners on the heel took some getting used to as I'd sometimes end up stepping on the piece that tightens/loosens.

Great hiking or casual “go-to” sandal!

I wear them all the time & tend to forget I’m even wearing shoes because they’re so comfy.

Not impressed...

I do not like these sandals. They are too wide and I am not confident in trimming them, even though they say on the website that a person could trim them. The way the blue meets the black on the side, they do not appear trimmable. The ropes are too long when I pull them tight around the back of the heal, so I have to try to tuck the extras into the side of my foot otherwise they hang out looking very obnoxious.

Great sandal!!!

These are great sandals. Normally I won't keep any shoes, not even sandals on my feet. These, I keep on, they are so comfortable. I was really hesitant to order them as I thought the straps looked really uncomfortable. I finally gave in and decided to give them a try. Even the straps are comfortable. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these sandals!!! Wish they were made in kids sizings too, as my daughter wants a pair now.

Great idea, but not for my narrow feet

I wanted to love these sandals - I've been running in barefoot style shoes for years and wanted to try going even more minimal. I just can't get them to be comfortable though...they are way too wide for my feet (which are pretty narrow), and no matter how i tighten or loosen the straps, they make a loud slapping sound on the road and shift around under my foot, giving me bloody blisters in several places. Even were I to develop sufficient callouses, I just don't think they would ever be comfortable for running as much as my feet slide around in them. At some point I may try the cut-to-fit style to get a narrower shape and more secure fit.

Perfect Sandel

I haven’t had a chance to really put them to the test but walking around all day, I love them. It’s perfect to get back to the barefoot feeling and for strengthening your muscles. Looking forward to purchasing other shoes as barefoot is the way to go!
