Short spikes

Wearing these with my Xero’s was not good Too many straps, too long and hard to put on After a couple miles my left foot hurt. Not great on ice/snow in Vt

Short Spikes for the Win!!!

Love the way these are made...they reinforce the idea of a proper stride when walking with emphasis on the forward portion of the foot (not to mention being safer and a good way to maintain balance when out on the ice). Well thought out product.

Alpines don’t hold Ice walkers well too soft.

Hard to get snug fit on my Alpine boots they are to soft. Works better on heavier thicker hiking boots.

Clumsy

First of all, the fact that they raise the toe if ones foot considerably higher than the heel makes walking comfortably nearly impossible. Second, the amount of time required for fastening and removing the spikes from the shoes/boots is entirely impractical. By the time I get them on, I'm out of time to take the hike. I returned these shortly after receiving them. I must say, Xero was very amenable and efficient in refunding me.

Not for Walking

First: I love all my Xero shoes, sandals, and boots. I got these in the fall and thought they looked okay, plus saw positive reviews, so I waited until Minnesota was good and iced over in mid-January to try them over my wonderful Alpines. Well, I struggled with the straps for 15 minutes and then stood up and really disliked the negative heel position. (Though I wear minimal/barefoot shoes and have learned to walk lightly and use my back leg muscles for propulsion, I do strike with my heel, not my forefoot.) I wanted these for walking and hiking.... but I can’t see using them for anything but climbing up a steep sheer-ice slope or maybe, as the Icewalkers web site mentions, ice fishing or deer hunting. Hoping I can re-sell these for a few bucks, otherwise I’m just out the cost of half a pair of many Xero shoe models. Sorry to have to leave an unhappy review, but yikes in the spikes.

Great Ice Traction

I took these out for the first time along with my Xcursion boots. The trail conditions were a mix of rocky, snowy and icy...so a little bit of everything. The cleats are a little tricky to get fitting properly. I had to stop a few times to fix a cleat that had fallen off. When on properly, they provided great traction on ice though, which was a big help with the Xcursion boots. Was able to walk across ice with no problem. I tried to avoid the rocks as much as possible but still lost a spike off the right cleat at some point. I'll be sure to save using them for more snowy/icy conditions so I don't lose any more spikes on rocks.

The winter trail companion

Great for icy trails over frozen ground. I won’t leave the house without them on my boots.

Pretty sure

I’ve never owned or used these but they look like they would be just fine without heel traction

Not sure

I’ve never owned or used these but they look pretty squirrelly without heel traction.
