Great shoes, for shoes!

These are great. While I'm a fan of 'none at all' when possible, these are great for when I have to wear shoes for work or adverse weather. They look and feel great, and the waterproofing seems to be doing great. Only had them a few days, but as shoes/boots go, these are at the top of my list for great feel and features. Highly recommended for when footwear is necessary!

Medical Worker Must-Have

As an Orthopedic PCT, I need good posture, focused alignment, and natural movement. These shoes don’t slip, they are waterproof (if you work at a hospital you really don’t want liquids getting on your feet), and most importantly I get my barefoot feel with a little extra traction. After 12 hours on my feet helping people move and occasionally sprinting, I wake up without the stiff back I had with my Standard Issue waterproof work shoes. Thanks Xero!

Overall a very good minimalist hiking shoe for rain/snow

I have had these shoes for a few months now, so feel ready to write a review. I usually wear a women's 38. I am used to minimal shoes and have wide feet, so followed some advice online to order the men's shoe for extra width. I ordered the 39.5. The width of the shoes is good, so I am very glad I did not order a women's size, which would've been too narrow in the toe box. However I found the heel area too wide, and felt me foot was slipping/lifting. I fixed this issue with an adhesive back of heel cushion. I first tested the shoes in Australia in the spring. They are light and have good grip on rocks. However, being waterproof they aren't breathable and I found my feet got sweaty quickly! So in a warm climate they would really only be suitable for actual rainy days/winter. The main reason I bought the shoes was for travel to Sweden, and I have now tested them there in general winter conditions hiking and in light snow, and am very happy with them. The lack of breathability means my feet have been warm enough wearing them with just regular socks in the snow (its only been a few minus degrees Celsius so far). When it gets colder I'll use woolen socks. A negative has been that I always had sore heels (bottom of heel) after wearing them for a few hours. I think its because the soles are quite hard - I don't have this issue with my other minimalist shoes. In the end I decided to put a small leather heel wedge insert in them. This has cushioned my heel and fixed the problem, though its a shame they're not zero drop anymore as a result. Biggest negative for me is the high price (may not be an issue in the US, but with conversation to Aus dollars + postage, these were the most expensive shoes I have ever bought!). But as the minimalist market is so limited, and normal hiking shoes are too narrow for me, I felt I didn't have much option but to go ahead with these. Overall I am quite happy with them, just hope they become cheaper in future!

Great Boot!

These boots are incredibly lightweight and durable. I have a pair of the Prios and the Xcursion definitely isn't as minimalist as they are. But the boot is by far lighter than any hiking boot I've worn, they are incredibly comfortable, and they are rugged for trail hiking, working out, etc. I would highly recommend them for anyone who is looking for a more durable, poor weather boot.

Very comfortable, a bit narrow

I love these shoes, but I'm a lady with very wide feet I guess because I had to buy the men's shoe go up a size from the perfect length to have enough room in the toe box. I hope someday in the future Xeroshoes has the means to provide extra wide sizes 🙂 Love you guys, keep it up!

Xcursion

True to size. Definitely waterproof. My every day’s for the next 3 winter months. I work on my feet for 12 to 16 hour days and I couldn’t be happier with them.

good design but some issues

Overall I really like these shoes, primarily for the width flexibility around the ball of the foot. My feet are are kind of ******* up after 30+ years of running trails in orthodox running shoes, so I'll continue to purchase these. However, two issues: First the tread variability on these shoes makes them slide both in the summer on scree and in the winter on snow. I have your trail running shoes that have more variability in the tread and I don't slide as much. It would be nice to have that on this hiking(walking) shoe. The second is just an odd curiosity but the material on these shoes has a tendency "fur up". So parts of the side have a furry exterior (about 2 cm at the maximum). It doesn't seem to affect the shoe function but it is quite weird. This is the second pair that I've notice that. Anyway, good shoe, put more tread! 🙂

Great

Great minimalist waterproof boot. The sole does start a bit tough but breaks in nicely to allow the foot to engage naturally. The waterproofing is solid. On my first day out with these I encountered very heavy rain and had to walk through very deep puddles. Like another reviewer I was sad to notice my socks got a bit wet. I realized that while the boot itself is perfectly waterproof the laces and tongue need to be tied properly to be submerged above a certain distance and even then, while they will handle rain perfectly, it’s worth keeping in mind that the tongue area rests lower to the ground than many other boots with a more significant lift to them. So keeping in mind their exact abilities I had much, much better performance and completely dry days after that learning experience. These are waterproof work boots not Wellingtons after all. I have yet to fully explore the exact nature of the waterproofing around the tongue but am certain this is as good as boots can get. As for work abilities I found the construction of the toe box is surprisingly reinforced while being light and not chunky. It is the “just right” amount for me as I don’t like a composite toe but the extra bit of protection is appreciated. Walking through grass, mud, and sticks is the strength of this boot, and it does it perfectly. As with other Xero shoes I feel my weight rests naturally, balanced and on my heels when standing still, and allows my feet to flex and legs to stride healthily. I encountered two instances within severals weeks of wearing these in the rain when the improved balance was noticeable and effective. In one instance I hastily descended a ladder someone else had set and when I placed my weight down entirely on my left foot the ladder began to fall over to the left. However, wearing the boot it was natural and effortless for my weight to shift and stay centered, I felt sturdy and not wobbly even for a moment thanks to the nature of the boot. The second time I was operating a condor and I operated my bucket arm while driving forward and had a minor snapping motion due to the janky controls of the particular machine. However I immediately landed on my feet and was impressed by how grounded and safe I felt due to the superior balance the shoe allows. Overall I would highly recommend them even though for walking on very smooth surfaces the chevron treads are perhaps slightly too aggressive as they really excel on other surfaces. So add the daylite hiker to my wish list as well! Not a bad problem to have. 5 stars.
