Amuri Venture Ready-to-Wear Men's Barefoot Sandals - Xero Shoes

Cloud/Venture Size Guide

Get the right size for your Amuri Cloud and Venture

Barefoot sandals don’t fit the same way as shoes, or other sandals. Just because you wear, say, a size 10 Nike Free, that doesn’t mean you’ll wear a size 10 Amuri Cloud or Venture (and, I’m willing to bet you have other shoes that are 9.5 or 10.5… so are you really a 10 😉 ?)

By following the instructions below, you’ll get the correct fit.

NOTE: Please follow these instructions to get the right fit

3 Simple Steps to the Correct Fit

1) Measure your foot

Measure your feet for huarache barefoot sandals

  • Place a piece of paper against a wall (if you have VERY large feet, use a piece of newspaper.
  • Place your foot on the paper, with your heel against the wall.
  • Make a mark on the paper at the furthest point away from the wall… this will either be just in front of your big toe or second toe
  • Take a ruler and measure from the edge of the paper to the mark you made.

Here’s a video showing the process

2. Check your measurement against the chart, below

This will give you a good idea of your size… but PLEASE follow the next step whenever possible.

3. Verify the correct fit by printing the size template and comparing it to your foot

Why you’ll love the Venture:

  • Fun colors — Charcoal (with a reflective black toe lace), Royal Blue (with a reflective blue toe lace), and Tangerine.
  • Our exclusive FeelTrue® rubber outsoles, the only sole material made specifically for barefoot sandals. 5.5mm thick for great ground feel with the protection you want

  • Pre-laced — just slide in your foot and go
  • Patent-pending tension adjustment system — find the perfect fit in seconds, and then you can slide your Xeros on and off in a flash.

  • Super STRONG toe post — won’t pull through the sole like flip flops do
  • Heel cup — keeps your heel in place, helps keep out debris, and adds a splash of color
  • Nylon Achilles strap with Silicone grip — holds on securely and comfortably
  • Elevated ankle holes — the lace never touches the ground, and so it won’t abrade
  • 5,000 mile warranty! Wear out your Ventures in under 5,000 miles and we’ll replace them for the cost of shipping and handling (details here)

Biathlon in my New Venture

I used Vibram Five Fingers and Vivobarefoot running sandals in my previous races and I developed blisters through all of them at various spots on my feet.

I participated in an ultra biathlon last weekend: 2.25km swim and 22km run. I completed this latest run in my brand new Amuri Venture and I'm happy to report that there were no blisters, abrasions or injuries experienced during this race! What's more amazing was the fact that I had only worn it for a 5km run on Tuesday to get used to the feel, then straight into the 22km on Saturday.

Really really good

So it's now a while ago that I ordered the Venture and all I can say is that they are really good. I never liked wearing Flip-Flops because the thing in the middle always hurt like hell. So the first week I had to get used to the Venture because also here it hurt a little bit. Then after 2-3 weeks I began to get used to the feeling. I can only say that there is no comparison to my old running shoes, minimalist shoes are a lot better. BUT for the people who are not used to running in minimalist shoes I highly recommend to start off by running barefoot to really get used to the technique. Once you get used to it, you can put on the minimalist shoes and have a lot of fun. Thank you for your service and the good product!

Good and Not

I like these shoes. I want to love these shoes, but I can't. Now, this isn't really the fault of the shoes, but I've discovered rather dramatically that these shoes are not very good for people who have feet which sweat a lot. The first time I tried these shoes out in the world, I ended up falling down a flight of stairs. My feet have a tendency to sweat a lot, which is why I like to wear sandals to allow my feet to get good airflow. Anyway, while going down a flight of stairs, my foot slipped on the sole and placed pressure on the toe post of the shoe. The toe post popped out of the hole in the sole, and my foot when flying out and I went down the stairs rather ungracefully. Thankfully, I wasn't hurt, and I was able to put the post back in the sole, but anytime my feet start to sweat....well, I avoid stairs in these. If you are a person who sweats a lot, you might want to give these shoes a miss.

(NOTE from Xero: We have people who run trail ultramarathons in Xeros, going in and out of water. While no sole gives you perfect grip under all circumstances, the way you reduce slipping is by making sure you land with your feet UNDER your center of mass -- so you're basically coming straight down onto the sole. Hope that helps.)

Almost!

I wear Luna Monos, Vivo Neo Trail/Aqua/etc, Altra Running Instinct for two years. I know what barefoot and zero drop products feels like, and I've read a ton at Natural Running Institute, Lee Saxby, Vivo, Altra and the web series put out by Sasha on barefoot running.

Last night at the track - I did two laps barefoot, and over 5km running with my ventures. I climbed 1000+ metres in them on the Halvor Lunden Trail in BC last Friday.

Getting a snug fit for running and climbing takes a few tries. Wet grip is minimal, and I think that in wet conditions, a paraffin wax or sex was option might help for this shoe as my foot moved a lot after going through muck (duh - mud between skin and shoe).

I must say that 5mm is the magic number for trail walking - it's the right balance of protect and ground feel for me.

I watched a video and trimmed a bit to much off the inside lace and over trimmed the leading edge of the sole, so this pair will ultimately end up as pool flip flops. My other modding inclination is the replace the toe post with a classic lace, or wrap it with cloth tape. I did get a friction burn last night on my right foot - in spite of efforts to get it just so. (no such problem with my left foot).

The silicone grip strip for the heel is too flimsy to last - It's wearing out fast. I'm not sure about what would be better. (especially with socks and winter in mind)

The hard rubber sole is 'slappy' if you have the fit on the side of comfy - they are quiet when the shoe is snug.

These are the closest thing to barefoot I have experienced, and owning them and watching a video series by Sasha - encouraged me to try barefoot running "on the smoothest and hardest surface available". I blew my running peers away as I clocked my best lap last night with no shoes. I have to be mindful of letting the heel touch down - as over striding, and heel/calf pain are common for me. The education on the site and FB presence really helps.

Winter is coming - and my injini socks are on to start the day - not sure about buying another pair so close to winter - by hey - I got a trip to LA later.

(NOTE from Xero: Did you mean Steven Sashen when you say "Sasha"? And when people have issues on one foot only it often points to a form-related issue... since the other foot is fine ;-) ... interesting article about that at www.xeroshoes.com/blister)

Defective Design & Foot Injury

The eye loop of the first pair broke at around 4 months and 250 miles, but was replaced for free under warranty.

The second pair damaged my foot with the thong during a run two weeks ago.

Vibram Five Fingers are the only barefoot shoe that works for me. I trust in Vibrams, and have doubts about Xeros.

(NOTE from Xero -- we're more than happy to help diagnose and fix the problem you're reporting ... and, of course, we make products without a thong. But given that we have tens of thousands of customers who've put on millions of miles without the thong damaging their foot, I'd suggest there may be another issue besides "defective design." In fact, assuming the sandals are laced with correct tension, I'd be willing to bet that the issue is related to overstriding, and we'd do a video analysis if you like.)

Best shoes I've ever worn

I bought my first pair of Amuri Ventures on May 16,2014 they have held up great. I have hiked, biked, walked, ran, and swam in these shoes for over a year now. I would recommend them to anyone who loves to feel the earth under there feet.

Perfect

Absolutely nothing wrong other than:
The annoyance of getting a rock stuck under your foot
Getting used to the thong strap.

To prospective buyers:
1. The toe post is NOT annoying, but it may take about a few weeks or a month to get used to it. But you will!
2. No damage has occurred to my Ventures in the past 3 months of owning them, and I've done everything from weekly dragonboat practice to running to walking across campus.
3. "Barefoot" shoes, in general, are a full-submersion experience. Obviously, they may cause you pain or strange feeling in your feet for a bit, but your gait will feel more natural after a little.
4. Do not be afraid to get these wet; they can recover from anything.
5. Your shoes will not smell bad.
6. The straps are easy to adjust, but require two hands to operate.

Great!

This is my second pair and I still love them (I lost the first pair). The newer version has an improved tension heel that's faster to change on the fly than the older model. All around great sandal for casual wear or even running.

Comfortable, but

Don't expect these to last much more than a year. Around a year after purchase I started to get back to back issues, that I keep trying to patch. The cord ripped out the ankle hole. A toe post broke. Then the ankle hole on the other sandal gave out. On the bright side, the soles still aren't even close to being too thin. However, despite this I'm contemplating buying a new pair since it looks like there have been a few modifications that I'm curious about. =)

(NOTE from Xero -- Sadly, manufacturing is not 100% perfect and very rarely we hear about a situation like this... and we address it. We stand behind our products. And we have customers who've worn this product non-stop since it came out in October 2013 with no problems.)
