Cloud/Venture Size Guide

Get the right size for your Amuri Cloud and Venture

Barefoot sandals don’t fit the same way as shoes, or other sandals. Just because you wear, say, a size 10 Nike Free, that doesn’t mean you’ll wear a size 10 Amuri Cloud or Venture (and, I’m willing to bet you have other shoes that are 9.5 or 10.5… so are you really a 10 😉 ?)

By following the instructions below, you’ll get the correct fit.

NOTE: Please follow these instructions to get the right fit

3 Simple Steps to the Correct Fit

1) Measure your foot

Measure your feet for huarache barefoot sandals

  • Place a piece of paper against a wall (if you have VERY large feet, use a piece of newspaper.
  • Place your foot on the paper, with your heel against the wall.
  • Make a mark on the paper at the furthest point away from the wall… this will either be just in front of your big toe or second toe
  • Take a ruler and measure from the edge of the paper to the mark you made.

Here’s a video showing the process

2. Check your measurement against the chart, below

This will give you a good idea of your size… but PLEASE follow the next step whenever possible.

3. Verify the correct fit by printing the size template and comparing it to your foot

FAQS

What’s the difference between the Amuri Venture and Cloud and your Kits?

The Amuri Venture and Cloud are ready-to-wear barefoot-inspired sandals. For our kits you, well, have to make them 😉

Both products use our exclusive FeelTrue® rubber, the only outsole product made specifically for barefoot style sandals.

The Venture’s sole is 5.5mm thick, compared to either 4mm or 6mm on the DIY kits. The Cloud has 3mm of Barefoam™ in the forefoot for a bit of extra comfort and lighter weight (the Clouds float!)

The Cloud and Venture have a soft toe post, so there’s no knot under your foot.

The Cloud and Venture have a simpler lacing system with a patent-pending adjustment technology that let’s you get a perfect fit in just seconds.

The ankle holes on the Cloud and Venture are raised off the ground so the lace can’t abrade.

The heel cup helps keep stuff from getting under your foot (not perfectly, of course), and keeps your heel in place.

Can I get the Venture in a 4mm sole?

The Venture is pre-made with a 5.5mm sole.

If you want something thinner, check out our 4mm Connect outsole on our DIY kit.

Can I change the laces on the Cloud and Venture?

We don’t currently have a way to let you select different laces when you order, but if you’re adventurous, you can buy extra laces and swap them out with the ones that come with your Clouds and Ventures. (It’s actually not that hard to do.)

How does the Venture compare to Luna Sandals?

The Sensori Venture uses our exclusive FeelTrue® rubber, the only outsole product made specifically for barefoot running sandals.

It has an unmatched 5,000 mile sole warranty.

The retail price is only $39.95.

There are a number of fun color options for the Sensori Venture, including 2 with reflective laces.

Our lacing system is patent-pending and easily adjustable.

The Venture’s silicone heel tube and ultra-soft toe post are really comfortable.

With elevated ankle holes, your laces never touch the ground, so they won’t wear out.

Our 5.5mm sole gives great ground-feel while still offering protection.

I don’t like things between my toes!

Okay, that’s not a question, but I’ll talk about it anyway 😉

Most people who say this are thinking of flip-flops. Xero Shoes are very different than flip-flops, and people who don’t like things between their toes are usually fine in Xero Shoes.

What’s the difference?

  • First, because of the heel strap, Xero Shoes stay on your foot comfortably, no matter what you’re doing with them. You don’t need to scrunch your toes to hold them on (like you do with a flip-flop).
  • Second, also because of the heel strap, you don’t need to jam your foot into the toe strap with every step (like a flip-flop)
  • Third… Speaking of the toe strap, it’s a soft, flexible bit of lace, not a hard rubber door stopper (like a you-know-what)
  • And finally, you can adjust the tension of the toe strap, unlike a… Well, you get the idea.

Can you really run in these things?

Tens of thousands of people all around the world of all ages use Xero Shoes for running… and walking, hiking, biking, camping, going to the beach, hitting the gym, doing yoga, even running 100-mile ultramarathons. Our former Customer Service Manager, Bill, ran from his house to the bus, from the bus stop to the office, back home, and then around with his dogs… then he does his fun runs on the weekend! He put about 120 miles on his Xero Shoes each week!

How do you run in these huaraches sandals?

Light and easy.

I can’t give you a barefoot running lesson here (for that, see the links on our home page).

But just by wearing them, you’ll find quickly that you don’t want to land hard on your heel as you walk or run in Xero Shoes.

The best advice I can give is: play with your gait and stride, looking for the thing that feels the most comfortable and is the easiest. But, most importantly: TAKE IT EASY at first… remember, Xero Shoes are just like barefoot, only with protection and style. If you’re not used to walking barefoot, that alone could take some time to get used to.

Plus, since you’re not putting as much stress on your skin when you wear huaraches, which means it hurts less, it’s tempting to do too much, too far, too fast at first. I know that no matter what I say you’ll probably overdo it (I did). Besides, how do you know what “too much” is, unless you do too much!?

Well, even though that’s true, I recommend you break into your huaraches SLOWLY. Walk around in them for a while first. Maybe only a half mile or so. When that’s comfortable, extend the time you’re walking and, when you feel ready, try running. If you’re already running a mile a day, try half a mile in these one day and see how you feel. Give yourself a day or two off and then repeat. If that’s not a problem, build up SLOWLY.

I also use the “slap-test.” If my sandals are slapping on the ground when I walk or run, I need to make some kind of change, probably by not reaching my foot out as far, or using better posture, etc.

Will running in huaraches (or barefoot) cure my running problems and injuries?

If you have a headache because you’re hitting yourself on the head with a hammer, wearing gloves won’t stop the pain.

In other words, it’s not just a question of taking off your shoes and experiencing magical healing powers.

Running barefoot, or in running sandals, gives you a lot of feedback about your running form. In short, if it hurts, you’re probably doing something wrong.

If you are willing to listen to that feedback and use it as an opportunity to change the way you run, to adjust your stride, to find a way to move that doesn’t hurt, then there’s a good chance any problems you had that were caused by bad form sure might clear up.

In other words, barefoot and minimalist running could show you how to let go of the hammer.

Being barefoot, or in huaraches, is an opportunity to find a cure, not a cure in and of itself.

Check out this post to read about people who, instead, thought barefoot running was about putting on gloves.

How long will the Xero Shoes huaraches last?

Frankly, we don’t know. We’ve had people put over 10,000 miles on a pair… and they’re still going!

Like any shoe, how long they last depends on your running style. If you use good barefoot technique and are light and easy, without scraping your foot on the ground, you’ll enjoy them for quite a while.

Besides, considering how inexpensive they are compared to big, padded, running shoes, we expect that you’ll be saving a fortune by using Xero Shoes.

And, more importantly, Xero Shoes come with a 5,000 mile sole warranty!

I don’t like things in between my toes!

  • Third… the toe post is REALLY soft and flexible, not a hard rubber door stopper (like a you-know-what)
  • And finally, you can adjust the tension of the lacing, unlike a… Well, you get the idea.

Why don’t you use leather or hemp laces?

You can use almost anything for lacing huaraches.

In my testing, though, I found some issues with hemp and leather that I didn’t like:

  • Both leather and hemp tended to stretch, especially when moist
  • Both leather and hemp tighten and stiffen when they dry
  • Both leather and hemp wear out faster than our polyester laces
  • Leather is much more expensive
  • Most leather laces are rectangular, and the edges can dig into your skin
  • Leather, isn’t vegan (for those who care about that)
  • Leather and hemp don’t give you as many fun color choices

The 100% polyester cord we use is strong, light, and doesn’t stretch or tighten, especially when wet.

Also, I prefer the “slip-on” method of tying which works best with a round lace, rather than a flat one (like leather).

Needless to say, you can replace the lace we send you with whatever you like.

Do you ship internationally?

We do! We’ve sold Xero Shoes to people in more than 85 countries around the world.

We use the US Postal service to send our shipments. The cost to ship will depend on the weight of the package and the delivery speed you select; several options will be provided at checkout.

All domestic shipments come with tracking.  Limited tracking is available for some first class international shipments depending on the country, and full tracking is available with all Priority Express and Express International shipments.

Though almost all of our international orders arrive without incident, we strongly advise you to select Priority Express International or Express International if you live in a country with a less reliable postal service, including (but not limited to) India, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Indonesia.  We cannot guarantee delivery of packages shipped using First Class International.

International delivery can take anywhere from 3 days to 8 weeks depending on how long your order spends in customs at the border.

Please note that some countries do require the payment of import duties for international shipments above a certain value. We advise you to know the import regulations of your country and understand that you will be responsible for payment of any duties and fees imposed by your government at the border.

All packages will be marked as merchandise; as a commercial shipper, we are not able to mark a package as a gift (if you’re giving Xero Shoes as a gift, that’s not the same as us sending a gift).

Also, check our Stores page. There may be a Xero Shoes dealer closer to you.

What’s your return policy?

Some people get their Xero Shoes, put them on, and immediately love them. They walk and run painlessly and with the freedom that Xero Shoes provide.

For others, there could be a process of learning how to tie huaraches, and how to walk and run in minimalist footwear. In fact, one of the points of going barefoot/minimalist is to let any discomfort teach you how to move in a different way… a way that will be more efficient and potentially healing. Getting a blister, or feeling some tension in the cord isn’t a sign that there’s a problem with your sandals, but rather they’re working as they should: They’re giving you important feedback about your form (usually overstriding and/or landing too hard). Once your body/mind naturally figures out how to adjust, those issues resolve themselves. If you have any questions, check out Xero Shoes Forum to see if someone else has already answered your question or solved your problem (they probably have). We’re also happy to help, and we’re really good at coaching over the phone, so don’t hesitate to call: 303.447.3100

All that said, please go to Xero Shoes Return Policy page to learn about our 45-day return policy and free exchange policy.

Pain Free

Since 2010 I had a acquired extreme pain and discomfort in my knee due long distance running. Not being one for surgery or pharmaceutical pain killers, I held out hope that my knee would heal naturally with rest and diet. so I took up cycling instead. However over the years I still experienced pain in my knee. Sometimes I noticed the pain would shift from my left knee to the right knee after a short run of less than a mile . Also I could not bend my knee at an acute angle at any time without experiencing pain. That was up until July of this year when I purchased my first pair of Xeros. At first I started walking 3 mile distances every morning and continued to wear them throughout the day. I can honestly say the pain I used to experience has diminished significantly . I have run 12 laps around a sports track at least 3 different occasions with virtually little to no pain during and after, and I am absolutely convinced it's because wearing my Xeros has promoted strength and healing in my knees. I am elated!!! considering how many years I have had to endure the discomfort. It's funny how I expect to feel pain when I kneel and it's simply not there anymore. it's miraculous!!

Great sandal, but hurts my interspace.

I absolutely love the ground feel that these shoes provide. The only complaint I have is that the plastic part that is connected with the countersink rubs against the interspace between my big toe and index toe, making it quite raw. I simply sold the shoes to my father and bought the Z-Treks, which have nothing between the big toe and the index toe.

To anyone looking for a good running sandal: I'd go with the Z-Trek before the Venture. The Venture seems like it would be more suited for activities that don't involve frequent rubbing between the toe interspace and the countersink piece, such as walking and hiking. Z-Trek is better for running in my opinion.

[NOTE from Xero -- we *totally* appreciate your experience... and want to say that we've had thousands of runners do marathons and ultramarathons in the Venture and Cloud. But the reason we make BOTH "thong style" and "sport style" sandals is for people's preferences and experiences.]

Loving my feet

Zero shoes have been a god send for my feet. I have size feet and a high arch, which causes shoes to bind painfully tight across the sides of my toes and the top of my foot. Even side width shoes always felt compressed. I started wearing sandals all the time to alleviate the pain. Sandals started giving me back problems and I would still resort to athletic shoes when jogging or climbing and hiking shoes for trails. When I got my first pair of Zero shoes back in 2012, it was a revelation. It started with a backpacking trip across Europe, as the Huaraches were small, easy to pack. Then blossomed into a daily wear as I threw my sandals away for the lightness, comfort, and surprising grip of the Huaraches. One thing I didn't like about the was always wearing out the knot underneath the toes and having to re the them. This happens a lot when walking on stone cobbled streets in Paris or the granite cliffs of Yosemite. When I heard about the Ventures not having the knot underneath anymore, I swooped on a pair as soon as they came out and have loved them ever since. I've put thousands of miles on Xero shoes, from trekking the Himalayas, exploring the beaches and ruins of the Yucatan peninsula, 3 years of wandering Europe and the daily life of walking around Oregon, when I walk out the front door my shoe of choice is a Xero Amuri Venture

took a few days, but finally got it right

After analyzing multiple barefoot sandals for months on end, I kept coming back to Xeros. Finally, I took the plunge and am so glad I did. What ultimately kept bringing me back to Xeros was the impressive amount of education and resources on the website. I haven't gotten into barefoot running yet, but am working on it. The Xero family's passion for "feeling the world beneath your feet" is contagious, refreshing and helpful. Their desire to make your transition to barefoot mobility as successful as possible is is so evident and wonderful. After getting my Ventures in the mail, it took wearing them every day for a couple weeks for me to figure out the right lacing fit. The toe post was a tricky piece of the puzzle, but after a few weeks of fine tuning, I think I have it figured out. I love being able to walk with all the toe-freedom my feet have been craving!

2 cents from an old(ish) guy...

I'm a 66 year old diabetic who disdains the usual advice from the medical world about shoes and feet. I have advanced diabetic neuropathy in both feet with the resulting shaky stance. The heavy shoes socks etc. that I'm advised to wear would only decrease the necessary foot-feedback I am hungry for! I've found my Xeros to be not a compromise but an actual solution to my problem. Certainly worth 5 stars!! Could they be better? Sure, what can't? As a for instance perhaps an elastic based tension system? Fewer points of foot wear from friction—I'm breaking in my feet over time as I most certainly can't afford infection sights (blisters, cuts etc.) In sum, if I'm happy (and I am) then everyone should be happy!

The shoes are phenomenal!

The shoes are phenomenal! They are fantastic to run in where the terrain does not bode well for "naked" bare feet and are incredibly comfortable for general everyday use. It goes without saying that being a minimalist sandal they are totally perfect for our hot Israeli summers. Also great in the rain and dry quickly too. Looking forward to logging a lot more miles in them...
Thanks for a great product at a completely sane price.

Upgraded to Amuri Venture from DIY kit

In 2011 I bought a pair of the original Invisible Shoes. Back then, you had to fax them an outline of your feet and they pre-tied a cord. Then I let them sit for 5 or 6 years, running in VFFs instead. Recently, I got the new laces from here and re-laced them and ran 275 miles in them over about 10 weeks. I liked them, but never could get the tightness quite right. So I updated to the Amuri Ventures and took them on my first 6 mile run with them this morning. The little cup on the heel and especially the tightening system make all the difference. Loved them. The only drawback is I would prefer the DIY 4mm sole vs. the Amuri Venture 5mm sole, but that is not a big deal. I feel like I went from the beta version to real version.

Great sandals!

They are great! I love how easy they are to get on and off! I got them to replace my flip flops and I haven't looked back! I have traveled the country in them and have used them on trails and in the water, they are durable so far I haven't had any problems with them! Best part is there is no smell unlike my vibriams! Can't wait to get my next pair, and next adventure!

This is true

These sandals are great!
But walking barefoot is not the same, you have to adapt the feeling of a thong between your toes, and take care of the steps, because It's easy to forget that you have something under your feet, maybe the same case what Paul Lyman said a few posts ago.

Way above expectations!!!

My new Venture sandals are terrific! I absolutely love them. They are very comfortable and easy to put on. I was surprised at how well the heel cup works for keeping out little pebbles. It also works well when driving since it covers my heel while my foot is on the gas pedal. It is amazing how natural they feel and how well they stay in place. I could not be happier with my purchase.

Really Great w/ A bit of Tweaking

I just got mine the other day (super excited) and was really hoping that the toe piece or thong part wouldn't bother my toes but it did. After a day or so of walking and running around I decided that the silicone rubber piece that goes in between your toes was killing me and it really hurt. At first I thought I'd just have to get used to it but after a while decided to modify( replaced the toe piece with thin paracord and cut the heel cup thing off.).Now they fit really good and I love them.

I Love too weightlift barefooted!!!

I have the Amuri Venture. They are by far the lightest and closest to barefoot you can get without being barefoot. Once you figure out how to adjust the straps they're comfortable and the plastic toe piece stops hurting your toes. But because of the way I walk (no fault of the shoe), the splash guard rubs my heel on long walks. I will definitely buy the do-it-yourself kit next pair as all the other designs have the splash guard.

Thanks for designing a great product.

So far, happy feet!

I've had my sandals for a couple weeks now and I love them. The second I leave work, the dress shoes come off and these go on.
In the past I was suffering from Plantar Facititis, and while it has been progressively getting better over time, I expected it to come back full blown when I got these. Not the case. My feet feel stronger than they have in a long time. I use them for outdoor activities such as hiking and running on grass, and indoors at the gym when doing squats, deadlifts or any movements where my feet are the point of contact.
So far so good.

4 days in & in love

I couldn't be happier with these sandals. I'm only 4 days into wearing them but I have already, literally, forgotten that I was wearing them. I know I forgot I was wearing them because my wife asked why I still had them on in the house. I've been a barefoot enthusiast since 2012 and have a hard time finding footwear that is low enough in price and durable enough for everyday and everything use.

I'm also a huge fan of the Venture Bros. animated series which is why I chose the Venture over the Cloud. I do a lot of hiking in the Arizona desert and mountains so I also needed something a bit more durable and was worried the Cloud wouldn't hold up as well for as long.

I'm stoked to have a pair! Thanks Xero!

I own more sandals than shoes. People make fun of me for wearing sandals all the time, even during most of our Michigan winters (with split socks). I am always looking for the perfect sandal. So far, these are the closest I have come. I don't have a lot of miles on them yet, but I have high hopes that they will hold up as "advertised".

What people are saying about us..

Al Kavadlo

“Xero Shoes are the closest thing to actual barefoot running. Putting them on made me feel like a Native American warrior! They're great for my strength training workouts as well as running"

Al Kavadlo

Tynan

“The shoes basically fade away, and you feel like you’re barefoot all the time. I’ve put hundreds of miles on them, both walking and running, and have never wished for another shoe."

Tynan

Jerrod

“There is nothing I enjoy more than putting on my Xero Shoes and running on trails. My feet have gotten much stronger. And the other day I actually snuck up on a deer!"

Jerrod

Tracy Jones

“These are pretty much the only shoes I wear now. Within a week of putting them on, my plantar fasciitis completely disappeared. I did some arch stretches during this time, but that’s all it took."
