Cloud/Venture Size Guide

Get the right size for your Amuri Cloud and Venture

Barefoot sandals don’t fit the same way as shoes, or other sandals. Just because you wear, say, a size 10 Nike Free, that doesn’t mean you’ll wear a size 10 Amuri Cloud or Venture (and, I’m willing to bet you have other shoes that are 9.5 or 10.5… so are you really a 10 😉 ?)

By following the instructions below, you’ll get the correct fit.

NOTE: Please follow these instructions to get the right fit

3 Simple Steps to the Correct Fit

1) Measure your foot

Measure your feet for huarache barefoot sandals

  • Place a piece of paper against a wall (if you have VERY large feet, use a piece of newspaper.
  • Place your foot on the paper, with your heel against the wall.
  • Make a mark on the paper at the furthest point away from the wall… this will either be just in front of your big toe or second toe
  • Take a ruler and measure from the edge of the paper to the mark you made.

Here’s a video showing the process

2. Check your measurement against the chart, below

This will give you a good idea of your size… but PLEASE follow the next step whenever possible.

3. Verify the correct fit by printing the size template and comparing it to your foot

4.75 out of 5

The freedom of natural barefoot movement, with a whisper of comfort.

Feel the Freedom. Feel the Fun. Feel the World!®

Clear

“The most comfortable, versatile barefoot sandal your feet will ever love.”

We’ve taken our ready-to-wear Venture and added a whisper of comfort with a custom-made 3mm Barefoam™ insert in the forefoot.

This makes the Cloud even lighter and more flexible than the Venture… A men’s size 9 is only 4.6 ounces. The Amuri Cloud floats!

Some people think of the Amuri Cloud as their casual Xero Shoe, even though it’s sturdy enough to tackle a 100-mile trail ultramarathon.

Reasons you’ll love the Amuri Cloud:

  • Four fun color combinations — Coal Black soles with Charcoal, Mocha Earth soles with Black, Coal Black soles with Aquarius, and Slate soles with Lemon
  • Barefoam™ forefoot insert gives a hint of comfort, without unnecessary padding
  • Patent-pending lacing system gives you a perfect fit in seconds
  • Flatiron pattern on the Barefoam™ gives you extra grip
  • 6mm FeelTrue® outsole protects you from unpleasant surfaces without sacrificing ground feel
  • Elegant contour surrounds your foot, but doesn’t add unnecessary support
  • Ready to wear — the lacing is already done for you. Just slide in your foot and go
  • Patent-pending tensioning system — find the perfect fit in seconds, and then you can slide your Xeros on and off in a flash
  • Super soft toe post — since the huaraches-inspired lacing goes around your entire foot, you don’t feel the toe post the way you do in a flip flop or other thong sandal
  • Super STRONG toe post — won’t pull through the sole like flip flops do
  • Heel cup — keeps your heel in place, helps keep out debris, and adds a splash of color
  • Nylon Achilles strap with Silicone grip — holds on securely and comfortably
  • Elevated ankle holes — the lace never touches the ground, and so it won’t abrade
  • 5,000 mile warranty! Wear out your Amuri Clouds in under 5,000 miles and we’ll replace them for a nominal cost (details here)

CARING for your Clouds

Because of the BareFoam™ in the Clouds, these need a bit of extra attention. Do not leave your Clouds in hot cars or exposed to intense direct sun. This could cause the BareFoam™ to deform and is not covered by our warranty.

FAQS

What’s the difference between the Amuri Venture and Cloud and your Kits?

The Amuri Venture and Cloud are ready-to-wear barefoot-inspired sandals. For our kits you, well, have to make them 😉

Both products use our exclusive FeelTrue® rubber, the only outsole product made specifically for barefoot style sandals.

The Venture’s sole is 5.5mm thick, compared to either 4mm or 6mm on the DIY kits. The Cloud has 3mm of Barefoam™ in the forefoot for a bit of extra comfort and lighter weight (the Clouds float!)

The Cloud and Venture have a soft toe post, so there’s no knot under your foot.

The Cloud and Venture have a simpler lacing system with a patent-pending adjustment technology that let’s you get a perfect fit in just seconds.

The ankle holes on the Cloud and Venture are raised off the ground so the lace can’t abrade.

The heel cup helps keep stuff from getting under your foot (not perfectly, of course), and keeps your heel in place.

Can I change the laces on the Cloud and Venture?

We don’t currently have a way to let you select different laces when you order, but if you’re adventurous, you can buy extra laces and swap them out with the ones that come with your Clouds and Ventures. (It’s actually not that hard to do.)

I don’t like things between my toes!

Okay, that’s not a question, but I’ll talk about it anyway 😉

Most people who say this are thinking of flip-flops. Xero Shoes are very different than flip-flops, and people who don’t like things between their toes are usually fine in Xero Shoes.

What’s the difference?

  • First, because of the heel strap, Xero Shoes stay on your foot comfortably, no matter what you’re doing with them. You don’t need to scrunch your toes to hold them on (like you do with a flip-flop).
  • Second, also because of the heel strap, you don’t need to jam your foot into the toe strap with every step (like a flip-flop)
  • Third… Speaking of the toe strap, it’s a soft, flexible bit of lace, not a hard rubber door stopper (like a you-know-what)
  • And finally, you can adjust the tension of the toe strap, unlike a… Well, you get the idea.

Can you really run in these things?

Tens of thousands of people all around the world of all ages use Xero Shoes for running… and walking, hiking, biking, camping, going to the beach, hitting the gym, doing yoga, even running 100-mile ultramarathons. Our former Customer Service Manager, Bill, ran from his house to the bus, from the bus stop to the office, back home, and then around with his dogs… then he does his fun runs on the weekend! He put about 120 miles on his Xero Shoes each week!

Will running in huaraches (or barefoot) cure my running problems and injuries?

If you have a headache because you’re hitting yourself on the head with a hammer, wearing gloves won’t stop the pain.

In other words, it’s not just a question of taking off your shoes and experiencing magical healing powers.

Running barefoot, or in running sandals, gives you a lot of feedback about your running form. In short, if it hurts, you’re probably doing something wrong.

If you are willing to listen to that feedback and use it as an opportunity to change the way you run, to adjust your stride, to find a way to move that doesn’t hurt, then there’s a good chance any problems you had that were caused by bad form sure might clear up.

In other words, barefoot and minimalist running could show you how to let go of the hammer.

Being barefoot, or in huaraches, is an opportunity to find a cure, not a cure in and of itself.

Check out this post to read about people who, instead, thought barefoot running was about putting on gloves.

How long will the Xero Shoes huaraches last?

Frankly, we don’t know. We’ve had people put over 10,000 miles on a pair… and they’re still going!

Like any shoe, how long they last depends on your running style. If you use good barefoot technique and are light and easy, without scraping your foot on the ground, you’ll enjoy them for quite a while.

Besides, considering how inexpensive they are compared to big, padded, running shoes, we expect that you’ll be saving a fortune by using Xero Shoes.

And, more importantly, Xero Shoes come with a 5,000 mile warranty!

I don’t like things in between my toes!

Okay, that’s not a question, but I’ll talk about it anyway 😉

Most people who say this are thinking of flip-flops. Xero Shoes are very different than flip-flops, and people who don’t like things between their toes are usually fine in Xero Shoes.

  • And finally, you can adjust the tension of the lacing, unlike a… Well, you get the idea.

Why don’t you use leather or hemp laces?

You can use almost anything for lacing huaraches.

In my testing, though, I found some issues with hemp and leather that I didn’t like:

  • Both leather and hemp tended to stretch, especially when moist
  • Both leather and hemp tighten and stiffen when they dry
  • Both leather and hemp wear out faster than our polyester laces
  • Leather is much more expensive
  • Most leather laces are rectangular, and the edges can dig into your skin
  • Leather, isn’t vegan (for those who care about that)
  • Leather and hemp don’t give you as many fun color choices

The 100% polyester cord we use is strong, light, and doesn’t stretch or tighten, especially when wet.

Also, I prefer the “slip-on” method of tying which works best with a round lace, rather than a flat one (like leather).

Needless to say, you can replace the lace we send you with whatever you like.

Do you ship internationally?

We do! We’ve sold Xero Shoes to people in more than 85 countries around the world.

We use the US Postal service to send our shipments. The cost to ship will depend on the weight of the package and the delivery speed you select; several options will be provided at checkout.

All domestic shipments come with tracking.  Limited tracking is available for some first class international shipments depending on the country, and full tracking is available with all Priority Express and Express International shipments.

Though almost all of our international orders arrive without incident, we strongly advise you to select Priority Express International or Express International if you live in a country with a less reliable postal service, including (but not limited to) India, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Indonesia.  We cannot guarantee delivery of packages shipped using First Class International.

International delivery can take anywhere from 3 days to 8 weeks depending on how long your order spends in customs at the border.

Please note that some countries do require the payment of import duties for international shipments above a certain value. We advise you to know the import regulations of your country and understand that you will be responsible for payment of any duties and fees imposed by your government at the border.

All packages will be marked as merchandise; as a commercial shipper, we are not able to mark a package as a gift (if you’re giving Xero Shoes as a gift, that’s not the same as us sending a gift).

Also, check our Stores page. There may be a Xero Shoes dealer closer to you.

What’s your return policy?

Some people get their Xero Shoes, put them on, and immediately love them. They walk and run painlessly and with the freedom that Xero Shoes provide.

For others, there could be a process of learning how to tie huaraches, and how to walk and run in minimalist footwear. In fact, one of the points of going barefoot/minimalist is to let any discomfort teach you how to move in a different way… a way that will be more efficient and potentially healing. Getting a blister, or feeling some tension in the cord isn’t a sign that there’s a problem with your sandals, but rather they’re working as they should: They’re giving you important feedback about your form (usually overstriding and/or landing too hard). Once your body/mind naturally figures out how to adjust, those issues resolve themselves. If you have any questions, check out Xero Shoes Forum to see if someone else has already answered your question or solved your problem (they probably have). We’re also happy to help, and we’re really good at coaching over the phone, so don’t hesitate to call: 303.447.3100

All that said, please go to Xero Shoes Return Policy page to learn about our 45-day return policy and free exchange policy.

Never comfortable

I purchased these after I could not get the DIY sandals adjusted properly. Well, I could never get these adjusted properly. They also would hurt between the toes, especially running down hill. I may have run 10 miles total before they ended up in the closet for good.
Foolishly, I purchased the DIY, the Cloud and the Z-Trek. The Z-trek worked the best till the strap broke off from the sole, would cost $28 to get a replacement.

[NOTE from Xero -- humans have been running in sandals like our DIY kits for thousands of years. We're confident you can, too, with some attention. For example, your comment about downhills suggests that you're overstriding and applying braking forces when you go downhill... something that can be corrected.

Another thing... as one's form improves, the specific tension/adjustment of lacing becomes less important. That is, problems are actually feedback that can be used to improve one's form.

Finally, to add some context to your last comment, the cost for your replacement Z-Trek is because you've had the product for a year and a half, but we offered you our warranty replacement price as a courtesy.]

I'm looking forward to giving these a go!

I received my Clouds last night and spent some time trying different adjustments but couldn't get rid of the discomfort on my right foot with the toe post. I remembered reading a review where someone mentioned this and was sent "loops" so i made some with paracord and knotted, heated and flattened/shaped them using the instructions for the DIY kit. I replaced the toe posts using the video for removing the end hardware pulls (thank you for the vid). ( the bobby pin thing for re-threading is great too) These loops did the trick! The online sizing templates were a huge help for the purchase. They shipped quickly and the post office timely delivered. Communication from XS was great and i was notified of shipment with tracking info promptly. My Clouds are pretty comfortable and I will continue to experiment with the lacing positions. I am confident that i will find the configuration that works perfect for me. I have flat feet and historically I have not gone barefoot very much. At the beach I struggle walking on the smallest shells. I hope to strengthen my feet wearing these and I am excited to enjoy being "barefoot". I woke up with my feet feeling a little sore so i think I have a ways to go. i only wore them for a little while last night. I also want to try them while paddle boarding. While I'd like to go barefoot, I have been wearing cheap water shoes for fear of stepping off onto something sharp. These seem like they'd be perfect to experience the freedom and protection. Thanks!

Suprisingly light. Amazingly comfortable.

These exceeded my expectations for weight and comfort. I am completely thrilled! I buy these shoes for a different reason than most. Because of partial paralysis, I needed a sandal that was extremely lightweight and hugs my foot without slipping. The Amuri Cloud has met and exceeded those requirements. These are my 2nd pair of Xero shoes and I couldn't be happier with them. I can now do things on the hot Arizona pavement that before I had to strap on my huge leg brace to do. These shoes have given me more freedom. Thank you, Xero!

Xero clouds

I have been a sandal runner for years, after Teva quite making the split toes (1987) I suffered running in shoes and boots, tried going totally nude but cut my foot to the bone then got arrested (NJK) I didn't like the five fingers, and been getting by in tevas hurricanes with toe guard but the delaminate after about 3 weeks (seriously how can we send probes to mars and not make a glue that will bond rubber forever??)
I was stoked to find these clouds on a recent trip to Tallahassee. I was able to try them on, I wear size 11 in Lowa boots, and 10.5 in Asic or NB runners, the size 10 Xero clouds fit perfect. I like the minimalist approach to all things in my life and glad to have a good pair of running sandals again, I have run in them about a week now and all my ankle knee and hip pain has gone (ok not all of it I'm 56 and beat up) but the sandals run and feel great! Didn't even really take long for my feet to become used to going bare again.
I gave 4 stars out of 5 cause the price is a bit high but I'm tight haha, and I'm not sure how durable the toe thong will be but so far they excel beyond anything available and are cheaper then some euro makers I saw online prior to finding these in a brick and mortar store.

Thanks for making these. I just wish I could find the brown ones on line id get a second pair. (that's how I found your web page)

5
Shoes and service both top notch

On my first walk in my Amuri Clouds I barely made it to the end of the block. Turns out I'm one of the small minority of folks for whom the rubber toe post is a problem -- in my case, a seriously painful one.

I called customer service and talked to Courtney, who was quite familiar with the problem and the solution -- a pair of loops made of the same material as the laces, which replace the posts. She had them in the mail to me that day (no charge), and they solved the problem immediately. My Xero huaraches are now as comfortable as promised.

The Clouds will break you very quickly of overstriding and heel striking, which, of course, is all to the good. As promised, you feel every irregularity and object underfoot, which can take a bit of getting used to, if the objects in question are rough pebbles on a paved surface, for instance. But the adaptation doesn't take very long at all.

It's always a delight to find a company whose product and service live up to their promise.

Bravo, Steve, Lena and Courtney!

5
lopsided loper

Apparently, I walk and run lopsidedly. I'm basing this on that the much appreciated cushioning in the Amuri Clouds has molded noticeably more to my right foot than my left. So far i've only used these as a flip flop replacement (much more comfortable for walking long distance days than flip flops, even on hot pavement), and on 1 short run (not trying to hurt myself by going from shoes to barefoot too fast), but these have provided pleasant surprises at each turn with their comfort and ridiculously light weight.

I've worn 5 finger shoes for walking and hiking in the past and have always had issue with branches and stones getting caught between my toes, as well as a hard time working up to runs in them due to the extra thick (and hard) rubber under the heel and ball of the foot.. these feel very natural out of the box, and instead of trying to force myself to do more in them, i'm trying to force myself to slow down.

Also looking forward to having these as pack/camp shoes for my upcoming backpacking, bikepacking, and motorcycle camping trips.

Great, simple sandal

I've had the Amuri Clouds for 2wks and have run, walked, and paddle boarded in them and so far they've been great! I'm not accustom to thong-style sandals, but after a week of steady use and playing with lacing layouts they feel great. The lacing/fitting video provided on the website was very helpful, and with a little experimentation its easy to determine a comfortable fit. The barefoot feel is very accurate, and I'm pleasantly surprised how great to run in. Highly recommend this style for anyone looking for a simple, easy to wear sandal.

Great scandals except for 1 issue

Great feeling when wearing the amuri cloud. Simple and highly functional. However, as mentioned by one other poster, the toe post (the vertical part that sits between the 1st and 2nd toes) is an issue for me. It feels a tad uncomfortable. I suspect that if it's a bit thick, it will be more comfortable. Else, a great scandal.

Best customer service

I was so excited when I received the sandals that I put them on right at the mailbox! But I could tell they were too small. Despite having measured my feet 3 times before ordering, I still ordered a size too small. I sent an email to customer service with a picture of my feet in the sandals, and the response time was the fastest I have ever experienced, within a couple of hours! The person confirmed that the sandals did appear too small and explained how I would go about exchanging them for the bigger size. I have since received the proper size and hardly ever take them off!! If I didn't need closed-toe shoes for work, I would get rid of all my other shoes!

Next level feel for hiking!

I got my Amuri Clouds in the mail and immediantly put my feet in them. The initial feel was very surprising! I was expecting these to take some time to adjust to, but it only took me 5 minutes to find that right fit. After getting used to them for a day I took them out hiking on a very rocky and long trail. I was really amazed how these preform under those conditions. I'll defiantly be buying again from y'all!

Great sandal replacement

I've never worn barefoot shoes before and while it took a few days for me to get used to them, I am absolutely in love with my Xero Amuri Clouds! I wear them for hours on end and have even napped in them. Sometimes I forget I'm wearing them. If my employment (and occasional social expectations) didn't demand it, I'd throw out my other shoes and only wear my Amuri Clouds!

smooth riding

These are truly good running sandals. My only issue was with blisters but it took these sandals to show me that my gait is incorrect. I now have the pleasure correcting this mistake. But running in these is such a pleasure.

Word to the wise, for a first time user, do not run a far distance. I recommend nothing more than 5-6 miles. Be weary for blisters as well for those who do not have proper barefoot running form.

Replaced flip flops and helped with back pain

Being born and raised in Hawaii, I still have a habit of wearing "rubbah slippas" or flip-flops. I wear them all year, even in the icy winters of the Rocky Mountains.

I was having problems with backpain, and when I switched to Vibram Five Fingers years ago helped a lot. But I eventually stopped using them as flip flops are way more convenient (and less smelly).

I gave these Amuri Clouds a shot, and they're great. Back feels better, and although not as convenient as flip flops, they're much easier than my five fingers.

I love how light and flexible they are. My only issue was that the thong and straps were uncomfortable at first, but my feet quickly got used to it and now feels fine.

This was my first Xero purchase (but I have purchased quite a few other minimalist/barefoot gear), and I'll probably be buying the Z-Trail soon.

Great shoes and customer service

I had some issues with the sizing because of having one foot a little larger than the other. I called and received great support. They had another pair shipped out to me right away. I cannot add more than what all the other reviews have already said. Great shoes with fantastic build quality.

About as good as footwear gets!

I was amused at the individual who thought these reviews might be scripted because there are a LOT of people saying the same positive things. I'm not going to stray from this trend either!

My Amuri Clouds are simply wonderful to wear. Sometimes I don't even take them off for awhile after I've arrived home. They arrived in only two days, but even still I was for some reason so excited to receive them that I hassled Xero Shoe's customer service via email when the tracking number didn't work right away. Once they arrived and I was first wearing them I did feel the slightest discomfort from the toe post, but this disappeared completely upon getting the lacing adjusted just right. In my case I have found that adjusting the lacing to the point where the sole of the sandal conforms somewhat to the shape of my foot (but isn't too tight over the top of the foot) completely eliminated the toe discomfort as well as greatly minimizing the potential for the slapping sound some have mentioned to occur.

Hello From the Owners

What people are saying about us..

Al Kavadlo

“Xero Shoes are the closest thing to actual barefoot running. Putting them on made me feel like a Native American warrior! They're great for my strength training workouts as well as running"

Al Kavadlo

Tynan

“The shoes basically fade away, and you feel like you’re barefoot all the time. I’ve put hundreds of miles on them, both walking and running, and have never wished for another shoe."

Tynan

Jerrod

“There is nothing I enjoy more than putting on my Xero Shoes and running on trails. My feet have gotten much stronger. And the other day I actually snuck up on a deer!"

Jerrod

Tracy Jones

“These are pretty much the only shoes I wear now. Within a week of putting them on, my plantar fasciitis completely disappeared. I did some arch stretches during this time, but that’s all it took."
